Meet Dean And Gertie Explore The World

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dean And Gertie Explore The World. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dean and Gertie below.

Hi Dean and Gertie, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.

Our optimism comes from a combination of our family bond, our lifestyle, and our kids—Dean and Gertie—who keep us grounded and inspired. Living on the road isn’t always easy, but seeing the world through their eyes makes every challenge feel like part of the adventure. They remind us to laugh, stay curious, and focus on the good. As a family, we’ve learned to roll with the punches (and tire blowouts) and find joy in the unexpected. Every sunrise in a new place gives us a fresh perspective—and that’s where the real optimism kicks in.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

We’re the Grants—full-time RV travelers, family-focused content creators, and the folks behind Dean and Gertie Explore the World. What started as a way to keep family and friends updated on our travels has turned into a full-blown brand and creative adventure. Our content focuses on roadschooling, family life on the road, and exploring all the amazing places the U.S. has to offer—from historic landmarks to quirky roadside gems.

What makes our work so exciting is that it’s real. We don’t stage perfection—we share the bloopers, the blown tires, the late-night lesson plans, and the spontaneous dance parties. Our kids are a huge part of our channel, and their curiosity and humor bring our stories to life.

Right now, we’re focused on growing our YouTube channel and partnering with family- and travel-friendly brands that align with our mission. We’ve got a few fun collabs and travel series in the works—including new behind-the-scenes content on how we roadschool and plan our routes. Ultimately, we hope to show families that a life of adventure is possible, even with young kids and a limited budget.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

1. Flexibility: RV life has a way of reminding you that you’re not in control of everything—weather shifts, detours, or a campsite that looked way better online. Flexibility has helped us embrace those moments instead of letting them derail us. We’ve learned to adapt quickly, which has made our travels more meaningful and less stressful. Our tip? Treat the unexpected as part of the story. The detours often end up being the best part.

2. Planning: Believe it or not, freedom on the road starts with good planning. From schooling the kids to choosing the right routes and budgeting for fuel and repairs, a little structure makes the chaos manageable. We use planning tools, digital maps, and homeschool schedules to keep life moving forward. For beginners, we recommend starting with simple plans and learning as you go—it doesn’t have to be perfect to work.

3. Resilience: Nothing teaches resilience quite like living in 300 square feet with two kids, unpredictable WiFi, and a summer of four tire blowouts. We had moments where we wanted to quit, but we pushed through, leaned on each other, and turned the struggles into content that actually helped others. Resilience doesn’t mean never getting frustrated—it means showing up again the next day, even if the last one was a mess.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

Yes, we’re actively looking to collaborate with partners who align with our mission to educate, inspire, and explore. We’re especially interested in working with historians, park rangers, nature professionals, and educators who can help bring depth and storytelling to the places we visit. We love turning history and nature into engaging, hands-on lessons for our kids and our audience.

We’re also passionate about spotlighting local hidden gems—the small towns, family-run businesses, and off-the-beaten-path attractions that deserve more attention. If you’re a city, county, or tourism board looking to attract new visitors in a creative, family-friendly way, we’d love to collaborate. Our content connects with families and adventure-seekers who are always on the hunt for unique experiences and meaningful travel.

If you’re preserving history, promoting nature, or just trying to put your corner of the world on the map—we want to help share your story.
