We recently connected with Deana-kay Thomas and have shared our conversation below.
Deana-Kay, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I get resilience from my constant experiences with low esteem , trauma and set backs by being positive and having positive self talk about life and my journey .
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Hi, my name is Deanakay Thomas and I am lover of nature. I also enjoy being around my friends and family. I am a jovial person who is also an introvert. I am an Author,Worshipper , Evangelist and the Youth President and my church.
I wrote a book called “ Behind the Perfect Picture “. This book is about a young lady who lost her mother at the age of eight and would have gone through a childhood crisis of fear, trauma and abuse. Others looking on thought her life was blissful. However, those experiences brought her torture and discomfort as she push through life having a stained memory running through her mind of being robbed of her innocence. She then realized that she is a purpose and nothing could stop her from becoming great .
I am looking forward to enhancing my career goals. I have a BSW degree and I currently am about to start my Masters program in Teaching.
I recently launched a small business “ Behind the Perfect Picture Gifts and Fragrance”
I also have a TikTok account where I will share a series called “ The Hurt Series “ I will discuss the nature of emotional hurt among other things regarding hurt each month.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Confidence
Resilience
Trusting Your Process
Confidence
Believing in yourself and your abilities.
I love to take pictures and at one point I was not in love with how God made me. It took me a while to realize that I was fearfully and wonderfully made. So I started to do everything with confidence.
Resilience
I developed the ability to recover from challenges and setbacks because I am a determined individual who is capable of doing all things. Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.
Trust Your Process
Life has a way of sorting us out. But I can assure you that it’s a process to make you grow by building your character and making you a stronger person than you were before.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was bringing me into this world. My mother was not able to conceive due to her being diagnosed with diabetes and hypertension but she did manage to have a bouncing baby girl. My mom died eight years after giving birth to me. I am now here and I am so happy to be alive they impacted my life so that I am able to impact others with my story.
