Meet DeAndre West

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to DeAndre West. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi DeAndre, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

Resilience, for me, is not merely a trait; it is a tapestry woven from the threads of my experiences. From a tender age, life bestowed upon me challenges that would test the very fabric of my spirit—trials that I would not wish upon another soul. Yet, rather than succumb to adversity, I embraced it as a catalyst for growth. The words spoken to me, the actions taken against me, and the whispers behind my back became the crucible in which my strength was forged. Each hardship imbued me with an unwavering determination, a desire to persevere and flourish amidst the storms. It is this journey through darkness that has illuminated my path, fueling a relentless pursuit of resilience and hope.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I recently embraced the term “Multi-Dimensional Artist,” a phrase that resonates deeply with my creative essence. It encapsulates the diverse expressions of my artistic journey—from painting and sculpting to the written word, as evidenced by the three books I’ve penned. One of my favorite projects is my TikTok series, “Voicemails from Back Home,” where I channel the perspective of a whimsically eccentric elderly family member, delivering absurd yet nonchalant messages. Each episode is a labor of love, complete with sound effects and a calming backdrop, designed to evoke a sense of both nostalgia and humor. The joy of crafting these pieces and the positive reception from my audience inspire me to explore even more avenues of creativity.

I am eager to extend the reach of my work and delve into new territories. One dream is to create an animated short inspired by my painting series, “C.People” (Condition People), which examines the intricacies of human experience. Although I currently lack expertise in animation, I see this as an opportunity for growth and collaboration.

For me, art is an endless exploration, a journey through the myriad facets of human experience. When I discovered the power of humor within my creative expression, I embraced it wholeheartedly. My time working at a mental health facility introduced me to poignant insights, especially the phrase, “I just need a break from my mind.” This sentiment resonated deeply, guiding my artistic purpose.

Laughter, after all, is often hailed as the best medicine. I sought to intertwine this healing quality with my artistry, leading to the creation of “Voicemails from Back Home.” Through this series, I aim to offer a momentary reprieve—a brief escape from the weight of life’s burdens. Each whimsical voicemail is crafted to evoke laughter, providing a lighthearted interlude that allows viewers to momentarily set aside their worries. Even if it’s just for thirty seconds, I hope to create a space where joy prevails, offering a gentle reminder that sometimes, all we need is a little laughter to lighten our hearts.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

1) **Forgiveness Towards Yourself and Others**
Forgiveness is a profound gift we give ourselves, a radiant act of liberation. It is essential to recognize that withholding forgiveness only serves to tether us to the past, allowing bitterness to linger in the shadows, grinning with its jagged edges. True forgiveness does not necessitate a rekindling of relationships; it is an internal release, a personal act of grace. To forgive is to reclaim your narrative, to unburden your heart and soul. Forgive not for the sake of the other, but as a vital step toward your own freedom.

2) **Patience Towards Yourself and Others: A Journey of Learning**
Patience is a quiet strength, a gentle reminder that the most meaningful transformations do not occur overnight. Life unfolds in lessons, each moment an opportunity for growth. When faced with disappointment, such as not being selected for a show, it is essential to embrace the lesson within the experience. “Perhaps I need to refine my craft,” we can reflect. In this way, every setback becomes a stepping stone, guiding us toward our true potential.

3) **Love Liberates**
If we approach each moment with love as our compass, we not only free ourselves but also uplift those around us. Love is a transformative force, a radiant energy that circles back to us in unexpected ways. By entering every situation with an open heart, we create an atmosphere of connection and understanding. Let love be the foundation of your interactions, and watch as it blossoms into a liberating force for all..

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

I am eager to expand upon my project, “Voicemails from Back Home,” and am seeking collaboration with individuals who share a vision for its potential. Additionally, I am interested in further developing my artwork and animation skills. I have a strong aptitude for storytelling and aspire to explore acting opportunities as well. I believe in taking a methodical approach to my creative journey, focusing on one step at a time to ensure meaningful progress.
