Meet Deanna Robinson

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Deanna Robinson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Deanna, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.

This is an extremely hard question to answer because honestly, I still struggle with imposter syndrome. Every day I wake up feeling like I don’t deserve the life I’m building or the accolades I receive. Then I think about it—really think about it—and realize that I work my butt off. I’m in the shop six to seven days a week, sometimes working through the night without sleep. I’m constantly searching for new events to participate in and different ways to get my name and product out there. It’s not that I’ve overcome imposter syndrome; it’s that I continue to move forward and grow in spite of it.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I plan on changing the world through kupkakes. Cupcakes have been around for centuries, and we’ve formed our opinions of them based on past experiences. What I’m doing is transforming that experience—changing your opinion and the way you view kupkakes for the rest of your life.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The three areas of knowledge that have been most impactful in my journey are my customer service experiences, my sales background, and my love of food. Every experience and situation presents an opportunity to learn—how to do something better, how to communicate more effectively, or how to create something extraordinary. By keeping an open mind, there are no limits to what you can accomplish.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

What I do when I am overwhelmed is, I stop. I stop trying to solve problems, I stop worrying about what will happen if I fail, and I think about what I need to do to change the current situation I am in. By refocusing my energy onto what I can control it allows me the power to feel like I can do something, change something. Focus on what you CAN control and everything doesn’t seem so daunting.
