Meet Debbie Adams

We were lucky to catch up with Debbie Adams recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Debbie, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

Work ethic will show the kind of person you really are in the fact that it shows how you handle situations that arise whether work related or personal. It shows the values that you possess and how you use those values. I would say part of my work ethic I learned from my dad and the other part I learned through life experiences. My dad is a strong motivator and encourager, and he taught me early in life to always do things correct the first time, so you won’t need to be correcting things. He also taught me that if you’re working for 8 hours, then you need to put in 8 full hours of work. People with a good work ethic are motivated to get things done and I strive to always be motivated with a strong work ethic to always do what is right and to get things done correctly in a timely manner. Since I’m older, I see some of the younger generation not always being concerned with having a good work ethic and even in jobs I’ve had there have been people that didn’t seem to be that concerned about always being at work or being on time. No matter what you are doing in this life, I think in order to maintain a good work ethic you should be mindful of being motivated to put in more than 100% and strive to go above and beyond what is expected of you. I’m so thankful that my parents instilled a good work ethic in me and I’m also thankful that I saw a good work ethic in both of my parents and that instilled me to always be mindful of my work ethic and to always keep it in check.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I am an inspirational faith author, and I write books to inspire and encourage others. I strive to help others on their journey of life by showing them how I survived life challenges and that they also can climb that mountain in whatever life challenges they may face. I’ve always loved being able to help others and so I think it is a blessing to be able to help others in a more profound way through the books I write and also through articles I write and podcasts I speak on. I’ve spoken on so many podcasts that it’s hard to keep up with how many; however, they’re always insightful conversations, and I always hope that someone is being helped with the topic that I am speaking on. I’ve also spoken on stage talking about my story and my books and even though I love doing podcasts, it’s a true blessing seeing people in the audience as I speak.
I have a great testimony of faith, and it is God that led me to start writing books and to tell my story. No matter what life has thrown at me, I’ve always kept my faith in God, and I know He is the One that will lead me and help me in any situation. There have been so many life challenges that I have relied on God to help, and He always has and like He promises, He will never leave you or forsake you.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back on my journey which only started a few years ago, there were a lot of important qualities and skills and areas of knowledge.
The first and most important is believing in yourself and believing that you can do it. When God spoke to my heart and told me I needed to start writing books, I thought how in the world am I going to do that and then I said let’s do this and I saw God moving in my life. There were moments of doubt of course; however, when I trusted that God knew more than I and this was His plan, I kept going and kept believing and seeing my first book published with my name on it was so amazing. I felt like I had truly accomplished something.

The second is finding people who have already written a book and learning the steps you need to go through in order to have a well written book on any topic. It was God’s plan, and He told me I needed to write faith books and so He opened doors in so many directions with so many people to educate me on the process of writing and publishing.

The third is to keep researching and to see what people are searching and those could be topics you need to write on. This will also help to understand your audience and to see who your audience is and those are the people that will be buying and reading your books. When you see who your audience is then you will also be able to have a better marketing strategy in order to sell more books.

For anyone starting out on writing books, I would say, don’t be afraid of what others will think and to go for it and reach for the sky. Whatever your dream is, trust in God to take you there and be confident in yourself that you can do it. Find others that have already accomplished what you’re trying to do whether writing books or something else and let them help you with the basics and then you can learn the best way to get started. After you get started you can fine tune it to fit your needs, and you will reach your goal or dream, and the main thing is to seek God’s direction and trust Him to guide you.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?

What book has played an important role in my development and that would be the Bible, God’s Word! That is the number one book that has helped me even though I have read other inspirational and encouragement books. You might say that since I’m a faith author that of course the Bible will be the one that helps me, and I will say that the Bible is the one book that will help anyone in any stage of their life.
Like I mentioned earlier, I had no idea on how to start writing a book to publish it and God started opening doors and leading me in the direction I needed to go. God’s promises in His Word are what helped me more than anything and that is what kept me going and will keep anyone going as long as you trust and believe God will help you. My favorite promise is the one where God says, “I will never leave you nor forsake you,” and He has never left me and is still with me on this journey of writing. The Bible I read every day and when I read it, I get something new out of it every day even though I’ve read it through a lot of times. The subject of faith since I’m a faith author is all through the Bible and even though my faith has always been in God, it’s still encouraging and helpful to read about faith in the Bible. I’ve read several devotional books also to help keep me on the right track and they have been a blessing, yet the Bible is the main one that has kept me on the right track and still keeps me where I need to be. Since I am a faith author, I need to keep my heart open to hearing God speak so I will write the words God wants me to write and not what I want to write. God is the One that gives me the words to my books as well as all my book titles.
