Meet Deborah Alexander

We were lucky to catch up with Deborah Alexander recently and have shared our conversation below.

Deborah , so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?

After experience identity crisis,,, I learned to accept me for who I am..
I set the vibe to the environment.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Omg,, I help prepare Future Beauty Services Practioner, to become successful, productive Licensed Beauty Service Practioner.
Am excited about our Shadow Program,, 6wks Program for youth 12-16 ,,get a chance to experience school & salon setting to see if this is something they want to pursue as a career. Ps at no charge
About myself, Licensed stylist 45+ years 20+ as a Educator, sit on several beauty boards, CertifiedHairlossSpecialist, CranialProsthesisManagement, LashExtensions.., am living in a 25 years dream,,, I knew one day I would have a school,, I trust God inspite of adversity, facing homeless, repossession, losing everything. I never lost my hope 🙏🏼

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

My mother was a stylist ( beautician) She open the first African American salon in our City, I would say my mom impact on never given up.

My advice would be Never stop learning, Believe in yourself..

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?

My children,,,Especially my son he reminds me daily to stay strong,, Especially when he know I had a bad day..
My Pastor,,, he always have a word of confirmation..
My students to see them making sacrifice to have a great life for themselves & family.
