Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Debra Mosley . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Debra , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
As a child, I found peace in movement and joy in serving others.
My mother was ill when I was very young. Taking care of her was 2nd nature to me. Although I’ve been a RN professionally for 20 years, I still possess the same traits of tlc that I had back then, today when I care for my patients.
My parents couldn’t afford to send me to dance school. However, I would put on dance performances for my dolls , toys and uncle. I would mimic every dance move I saw on tv. I was a late bloomer in dance. My formal training began in my early twenties. However, my determination to learn outweighed my deficits. Since then I’ve been a studio owner for 7 years, a dance leader mentor, put on huge shows at popular theaters & judged national dance competitions.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m currently one year away from earning my Master’s in Nursing Education. I love caring for those who are ill & teaching is one of my passions.
I absolutely love to Dance, choreograph & teach dance I was a dance studio owner for seven years. My dance company accomplished a lot. Currently I’m a free lance dancer, teacher & choreographer. In addition to this I mentor several dance leaders. One of my favorite things to do is judging dance competitions. I’ve been one of the NAACP ACT-SO National Dance Competion judges three times to date.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Humility, determination and self motivation are the three traits that has pushed me to where I am today. You have to develop tough skin because there will be hurdles and hardships. However, remain true to yourself & passion. I’ve learned that dead-ends are destiny turn points.
What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
One of my biggest areas of recent growth is allowing myself to reflect upon my journey. Reaching for new goals is great, but being grateful for what I’ve already accomplished is greater. Being present in my now is just as important as who I’m becoming.
