Meet Debrayta Salley

We were lucky to catch up with Debrayta Salley recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Debrayta, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I believe that my work ethic is ingrained in my DNA on both the Maternal and Paternal sides of my family. In fact, As I look back over my life, I’d have to say that most of my family members have been hard workers and take their roles and responsibilities very seriously.

My first observation of this is from both my Mother and Father. I witnessed my Mother give 100% at her place of employment and then come home and do the same despite having to do it alone as a Single Parent. And while I didn’t grow up with my Father in our home, I observed his diligence as an Employee and Leader in his field for over 40 years. Having witnessed both of my parents give their all to anthing they have been tasked to do has given me the example, desire, strength and diligence to give my all to anything that I am tasked with. Now, as a mature woman, employee, and business owner, the focus of my work ethic is to please an Audience of ONE first and foremost – the Lord, Jesus Christ.

I do my best to keep this scripture (Colossians 3:23-24) at the forefront and pull on it when needed to refocus: “Whatever you do, work as it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive a inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Since first becoming a Co-Author in the Anthology “Cheers to Your Success” compiled by Carol Sankar in 2011. I have since been Blessed to be an Author/Co-Author in multiple books,Journal, a Columnist in a Magazine and Newsletter, and Contributor to various Blogs and Articles. My most recent written work is a 30-Day Journal called “A Safe Place to Land Journal” which is a 30-Day Journal designed to help you organize your thoughts, reflect on your day and track your healthy habits.” We live in a world where we are rarely intentionally still. Always going, doing, seeing, etc. It’s high time that we take some time to “Be Still” in God’s presence so that we can become fully equipped and endowed with the tools we need to be all that He has called us to be in his strength and according to his Divine Will. This journal not only allows you to reflect on your day and communicate your heart to God, but also check in with yourself mentally, physically and spiritually. It’s a must have for anyone who’s tired of burning the candle on both ends and want to ensure that they are walking in God’s Ordered Steps for them personally.

I have also had the opportunity to provide safe spaces via Virtual and In-Person events for Women to step away from their daily roles and responsibilities to refill their cups and get poured into. I am currently hosting my second virtual “30-Day Journal Committment” using the “A Safe Place to Land Journal. Journalling is a very effective tool for staying on track and recording your thoughts, plans, goals, desires, etc. when doing so alone and it’s even more effective when doing so with a Group of Like-Minded individuals. This activity has been a Blessed experienced for all that have participated.

As I continue to move forward in Business and Ministry, it is my primary focus to: (1) Please God (2) Use every Gift that I have been Blessed with to make a difference and be of Service to others. (3) Die Empty.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that have been most impactful in my journey are; (1) Detail-Oriented and Analytical
(2) Resourceful
(3) Solution Driven

In order to develop or improve on any of these areas, it is important to always be Authentic, seek to be a Forward Thinker, not get stuck in the “This is how it’s always been done” mentality, always participate in Continuing Education, obtain a Coach and/or Mentor that’s where you are trying to go, Never be afraid to speak up professionally to share your thoughts and ideas, Do More of the things that you enjoy the most; and most of all, Do Not Take Yourself too seriously.

We only get one chance at this Life so don’t spend all of your time just making a Living, build a LIFE!

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I am looking to collaborate with Small to Mid-sized and Non-Profit Businesses that are looking to collaborate with an Administrative Professional to coordinate their daily Administrative needs so that they can spend more time working on and perfecting their craft.

These individuals can connect with me by emailing me at: [email protected].
