Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dee Brown. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dee, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My dad‘s mom was the most amazing person. She taught me a lot of good life lessons. But the best thing she taught me, is to keep going. Because at the end of that trail is something that you really want. Maybe even something that you really need. I remember this one time she found me crying because somebody close to me told me that I wasn’t going to be able to be an actress when I grew up because I was too chunky. My grandma looked at me very seriously made me look her straight in the eyes, and she told me to ignore that person. She told me that I can be anything I want to be. Some people just have to work harder than others. But if I work hard enough and don’t stop trying no matter how bad it gets I can be, and do what I want. My grandma was amazing.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am most excited about being able to combine both my art and my passion for throwing events together. It is a lifelong dream of mine to be able to help people in a way that is both fun and creative.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three of the biggest qualities and skills that have been the most impactful in my journey are perseverance, organizational skills, and the willingness to continue to learn things day by day.
For those early in their journey, perseverance is going to be key. No matter what life throws at you, and trust me it will throw obstacles left and right, you can never get stronger and grow if you don’t have the ability to keep chugging along.
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
All smaller businesses have to start somewhere. The cost of creating a community that can thrive and grow together is both financially and mentally taxing at times. However, I know in the end, after all of the hardships that come along, it will be worth it to see how everyone comes together.
