We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dee Dee Reed. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dee Dee below.
Dee Dee , so great to have you with us and thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with the community. So, let’s jump into something that stops so many people from going after their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. We’d love to hear about how you dealt with that and persisted on your path.
To be honest I am not sure how I persist, I think I was just born with it. Since I was young I had kids at school making fun of me and bully me telling me I was ugly and somehow I was able to persevere at each step in life even though I had low self -esteem I guess I just did what they call ” Faked the Funk” or ” Fake it Till You Make it” So I guess that is how I was able to persist despite the haters and nay sayers.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Since I left the professional corporate world I embarked on a new creative venture . I am now the creator of art projects called ” Orphaned Bears & Rabid Varmints” which is based on stories about of each rescued road kill that was turned into a piece of art. Through my art I would like to connect with those who may have felt like they did not fit in and see the beauty in the odd looking creatures that I create.
I also host a YouTube Channel with author and writer Boris Amado called The Mythical Forest, where we connect with our audience in an authentic fun whimsical way to gardening nature and homesteading.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Don’t give up, Try new things , Be yourself and surround yourself with people who are smarter and more successful than you are. But stay far far away from those who are not authentic.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
Allowing me to play outside in nature,
Allowing me to be a brownie and a girl scout.
Taking me to church
Taking me camping and fishing and roller skating
Teaching me how to save money and never to owe anyone
Teaching me to help others
Giving me strict rules and guidelines and structure
