We recently connected with Deena Minter and have shared our conversation below.
Deena , we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
“Follow your passion. It will lead you to your purpose.” -Oprah Winfrey
Through the years, finding my purpose has not been a struggle that many have to conquer. Living it out, confidently, is another story. Originally starting my family from the young age of 21, my sole purpose and dream was being a wife and mother. However, I did not lose myself in that role like many can do, I actually discovered myself in it. Staying home with my children created space for me to adventure on this discovery of who I was meant to be and allowed me the security to do what I loved to do. I feel like as you let go of the need to “find your purpose,” your purpose finds you. During these years at home with my children, I pursued the things I loved in life, and many times they would flow into fun side hustles as well. From starting my own business selling handmade aprons at local farmers markets to where I am today as a wedding & event planner, every tool in my tool belt has supported me for each following season. The beauty has been seeing my purpose unfold as I have pursued my passions. Through the pursuit of my creative passions, the powerful woman I was meant to be has blossomed and has touched every area of my life. Many are on the journey to find their one true purpose, and I feel like it unfolds in layers as you pursue the passions of your heart.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My paid profession is a wedding and event planner. My purpose is to create space for my clients to be present in their season of life with my presence by their side. I love to walk along side people during the transitions of life that can tend to be stressful and be a calming presence for them. Whether I am planning a retreat, wedding or corporate event, I desire for my clients to feel celebrated and fully supported every step of the way. With every event in life, it can bring beauty and sometimes difficulty. Being their planner removes many of the stressors that could add to an already stressful season. I also find great joy in designing beautiful events which I believe enrich all those involved and stamp these memories forever. Hearing their unique story, I design their event to communicate that story and create a memory for a lifetime.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Tenacity – I believe it takes tenacity to continue to mine the passions and treasures within us.
2. Vulnerability – For me to become who I am today, I have needed vulnerability with those closest to me, so they could keep pushing me.
3. Trust – Trusting the process and letting go allow you to flow into your purpose.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
I have not necessarily had a mentor in my life, but I would say that books have been my mentor and in most recent years, podcasts. The authors and dreamers who have gone before me on my journey have been the most helpful in overcoming my challenges. Those who have learned from their “mistakes,” which I believe are just apart of our stories, have supported me in my development. Also the ones closest to me, where I can be completely vulnerable, have pushed me to be who I am today. Without them, I would stay small and never grow into my full potential.
