We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Deepak Mandy. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Deepak below.
Deepak , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
Hello, my name’s Deepak Mandy, and I’m the founder and CEO of CBD Movers. I’d say my work ethic is something that’s been shaped by both experience and upbringing. Growing up, I watched my family work incredibly hard just to get by – there were no cutting corners. That stuck with me.
When I started CBD Movers, it wasn’t just about ambition; it was survival. I knew that if I didn’t push harder than everyone else, I wouldn’t make it. Over time, that hustle became a habit. I’m also a firm believer in leading by example. I wouldn’t ask my team to do anything I wouldn’t do myself.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
The journey of CBD Movers began with one man and a van – just me, doing local moves around Australia. What began as a simple hustle to make ends meet has since evolved into a global operation. Today, we handle thousands of moves every week across Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Canada, and the UAE.
What makes CBD Movers special is that we’ve kept our focus on people. We blend technology, affordability, and good old-fashioned service. That combination has built trust – and trust is everything.
Right now, I’m focused on expansion, particularly our newest venture: CBD Rentals. It’s a natural evolution of what we already do – offering truck rentals to both businesses and individuals who want flexibility and cost-effectiveness. It’s still early days, but the response has been strong, and I see massive potential in this space.
Beyond business, I’m passionate about mentoring. I’ve made plenty of mistakes on the way up, and if sharing my lessons can help someone else avoid them, then it’s worth it.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, three things stand out for me:
Resilience – Business is not linear. You’ll get hit from all sides – competition, cash flow, and even self-doubt. Resilience is what keeps you going when motivation wears off. For anyone starting out, I’d say: build your mental strength as much as your business plan.
Adaptability – The world doesn’t slow down for anyone. Markets change, tech evolves, and customer expectations shift. I learnt early on that you either adapt or you get left behind. Stay curious, keep learning, and be willing to unlearn what no longer works.
People skills – This one’s underrated. Whether you’re dealing with customers, staff, or partners, your ability to listen, lead, and inspire matters. I didn’t always get it right, but I learnt that empathy is just as important as efficiency.
Every master was once a beginner. Be patient. Nurture your inner self as much as your abilities allow—growth begins within.
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
“The Lean Startup” by Eric Ries influenced my early growth strategy. It shifted my perspective on risk by promoting early testing, learning from user feedback, and continuous iteration over delayed perfection. That mindset saved me from overthinking and helped me move faster.
Another book I’d throw in is “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill. A classic – and its ideas on purpose and belief resonated with me. When you come from humble beginnings, belief can be your biggest currency before the money shows up.
