Meet Dejouir Brown

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dejouir Brown. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Dejouir, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.

I over come imposter syndrome from just trying to stay original as possible, pulling from life experiences the good and the bad. Trying to convey a sense of relatability in every aspect when making a new piece, pouring out my emotions and thoughts along with what I know others might have experienced rather it be the color palette choices or the subject matter itself. I want to allow enough room for the view to have their own say on what they feel or get from my work, instead of forcing a narrative on them.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

My name is Dejouir Brown I go by the artist name “Jouirnoe” I’m passionate about fostering creativity and innovation. My focus lies in helping individuals and organizations express their ideas and stories through various mediums, whether visual art, or strategic branding, mural or just producing my own music.

My artistic practice is deeply rooted in the exploration of identity, culture, and the interplay between the individual and society. My work often incorporates a mix of traditional techniques and modern digital elements, resulting in a distinctive style that resonates with a diverse audience. By experimenting with color, texture, and form, I creates pieces that are not only visually striking but also rich in storytelling.

One of the standout aspects of my art is the ability to evoke emotion and provoke thought. Each piece tells a story, inviting viewers to reflect on their own experiences and perspectives. This connection to the audience is a fundamental part of my mission as an artist— to create a dialogue that transcends the canvas.

In addition to my individual artwork, I’m also involved in community initiatives that promote artistic expression and collaboration. I often participate in exhibitions, workshops, and events that aim to foster a sense of community among artists and art enthusiasts alike. This dedication to uplifting others in the creative space showcases the belief in the power of art as a tool for change and connection.

As I continues to evolve, I remain committed to pushing my own creative boundaries while inspiring others to explore their artistic journeys. Keep an eye on for my work, as I’m sure to have exciting projects and collaborations on the come up!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

First would be Creative Versatility, My ability to blend traditional and modern techniques showcasing my adaptability and willingness to experiment with different mediums. This versatility allows me to create unique pieces that resonate with a wide audience.

For those early in their artistic journey, experimentation. Try out various styles, mediums, and techniques without the pressure of perfection. This exploration will help you discover your unique voice and what truly resonates with you.

Second My Emotional Connectivity, my art evokes strong emotions and encourages viewers to engage with the work on a personal level. This skill of connecting emotionally with an audience enhances the impact of the art.

Focus on storytelling in your art. Reflect on your own experiences and how they can be translated into your work. Understanding the emotions you want to convey will help you create pieces that resonate more deeply with your audience.

Last is community engagement My involvement in community initiatives and collaborative projects highlights the importance of building connections within the artistic community. This engagement not only fosters support but also opens up opportunities for growth and collaboration.

Network with other artists and participate in local art events, workshops, or online communities. Surrounding yourself with like-minded individuals can provide inspiration, feedback, and valuable insights that can enhance your artistic practice.

By cultivating these qualities—creative versatility, emotional connectivity, and community engagement—artists can develop a rich and fulfilling journey that not only enhances their work but also contributes to a broader artistic dialogue.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?

One of the primary challenges I face is navigating the business side of the art—balancing creativity with marketing, sales, and audience engagement. This can often feel overwhelming, especially for those who prefer to focus solely on their creative practice.

To overcome this challenge, many artists, including Myself might take several proactive steps:

Education and Skill Development, Investing time in learning about marketing strategies, social media management, and business fundamentals can empower artists to promote their work effectively. Online courses, workshops, and resources tailored to artists can provide valuable insights.

Building a Support Network, Surrounding oneself with fellow artists, mentors, or business-savvy individuals can offer guidance and support. Collaborating with others can also help share the workload and bring fresh perspectives to marketing efforts.

Creating a Structured Plan, Developing a clear plan for both artistic creation and business activities can help artists stay organized and focused. Setting specific goals for marketing, networking, and sales can create a sense of direction and purpose.

Embracing Feedback, Actively seeking feedback from peers and audiences can help artists refine their approach and understand what resonates with their audience. This feedback loop can be essential for growth and improvement.

By addressing the business aspects of My artistry while maintaining the creative passion, I can navigate this challenge more effectively and create a sustainable path for myself in the art world.
