Meet Del Kary

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Del Kary. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Del, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

Family and close friends. The people I work with all have a drive that is contagious and can literally bring you from 50 to 100 just by being around them.
Also being taught at a young age by my parents that hard work and dedication to whatever I was passionate about was the only way to reach your dreams.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m an Independent Film Director/Producer/Actor from Washington State who has been making movies since 1997.
I’ve loved to make movies since I received my first camcorder back in 1990, and haven’t stopped since.
The last film I directed, a horror movie titled ‘Cheater, Cheater’, (and shot in my hometown of Yakima, Wa., ) had its theatrical debut in September of 2024 and is now currently streaming on Tubi and Prime Video.
Two upcoming films I Produced, “Longshot Danny’ and ‘Incipient’, will be released in 2026 and I will also be directing my 3rd full length feature film in the Summer of 2026, currently titled “Psychosis”.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

I think the most important qualities to have in the entertainment business are uniqueness, determination, and a thick skin.
Your uniqueness and originality are what is going to make you stand out in the crowd. Determination is a must in this business… for every yes, there are a thousand no’s and you just have to keep pushing forward.
And having a thick skin is a MUST in this industry. You’ll be told you are too this or that or a review will rip you or your project to shreds and you have to learn to let it go and keep going.
You can’t please everyone no matter what you do, so you can only put out the best product you can and challenge yourself to get better and better each time.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

In this business you are always looking for people to collaborate with. Whether it be actors, producers, writers, musicians, it’s great to have connections.
I am always talking to or receiving headshots and resumes from actors looking for jobs, and even if they aren’t right for the part I’m casting at the moment, I keep them in mind for future projects.
