Meet Delaney Poor

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Delaney Poor. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Delaney, so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?

The aesthetics industry is beautiful. It’s vast, it’s bold, and it’s traditionally a very physically focused industry to be apart of. What does this mean when you don’t look like a traditional barbie doll? How do you fit in when you don’t have perfect skin, and you aren’t a size 0-4? Where some may view this as a road block, hindering their success, I view this as an opportunity for relatability. After all, human nature is to find a sense of belonging.

I am built like the traditional American woman. I have chronic rosacea that turns my cheeks anywhere from cherry red to plum purple depending on the flare of the day. One may look at me and say, “Why should I trust her? She can’t even fix herself.” It took me a long time to get past the monologue that I has told myself others thought when they looked at me. It took years for me to share my bare skin on the internet for viewers judgement. But once I did… something miraculous happened. My followers viewed me as human. I wasn’t speaking to them from a place of higher knowledge, I was speaking to them from a place of understanding.

Crossing over the threshold of self consciousness, I unleashed a new found voice for those that like to hide in the shadows. I was once the girl who hid her face from the world, always being laced up and beauty queen ready. By showing my bare skin, I opened the door for others to say, “I deal with that too.” By finding my vulnerability, I found opportunity in building others confidence from the purest most human connection possible. Familiarity and love.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Delaney’s expertise ranges from Managing Partner, to a practicing skin expert, with a background in tourism and hospitality. Delaney received her degree from Bowling Green State University, and went on to the Ohio State University School of Cosmetology for her Advanced Aesthetics license. With over five years of dedicated experience, Delaney has become a master in addressing complex skin concerns, including rosacea, pigmentation, acne, and overall skin vitality. Her approach is not just skin-deep; but delves into the intricate balance between internal health and external beauty. Her comprehensive method includes an in-depth analysis of factors that impact skin health, such as hormonal imbalances, stress, product interactions, and lifestyle influences. Drawing from her personal journey of managing chronic rosacea, Delaney brings empathy and insight into each treatment, understanding the profound impact skin conditions can have on one’s life.
Aside from her experience in the aesthetics industry, Delaney has years of combined experience with the Walt Disney Company. It’s no secret that Disney exemplifies what it means to have top of the line guest service. She ties this experience back to medical aesthetics to bring a unique take on the patient journey.
Delaney enjoys being a Know Better Skin Pro with Colorescience, and a Key Thought Leader with Alastin, sharing her love for protecting the skin you’re in. Outside of work, Delaney can be found enjoying the sunshine with her husband Mason, and dogs Memphis & Koda.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Empathy – By putting myself in the shoes of the people I’m treating, I enter the room with creativity personalized for each individual. I address the person, not just the face, and this brings results beyond expectations.
Fearlessness – When it comes to sharing my own weaknesses, having a fearless approach is something learned, but a deciding factor in reaching the next level. This fearlessness paired with consistency breeds success.
Love – At the end of the day, my faith and love from Jesus Christ is a pivotal part of my success. By entering each day with the foundation of loving others, I’m able to stay centered in a positive mindset vs the negativity the world fosters so easily.

My advice for those early in their journey is to get feedback from those you love and are closet to you. What do they say makes you who you are? What qualities do they list when describing you? Lean in to what makes you unique and desirable. Cultivate those skills. If you’ve identified a quality thats hindering your success, focus on building the skills to over come it. For me this was cultivating a fearless sharing nature. My core was telling me to hide my insecurity. My skill was learning how to share openly and excitedly for others benefit.

Focus on having a givers heart. When you focus on other people, your purpose shifts. Society tells us this empties our own cups.. but really it attracts other who have the same mindset and will fill you up again, continuing the cycle of giving.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?

My self worth has been my biggest area of growth. And I say that humbly. At the beginning of 2024, I was cautious of how my age would be viewed as I stepped in to a new role of leadership within our business, as well as the industry as a key opinion leader. I had had people say to me, “Oh you’re just a baby!” “You’re so young, just wait until…” “When you’ve done this as long as I have…”

What I learned is that there is room for everyone at the table. Where having someone with 20+ years of experience is beneficial to learn what has worked, the progression and history of the industry, it is equally beneficial to have NEW thoughts! New viewpoints on an ever-changing environment! All levels of life experience are needed for wellrounded growth.

As someone young coming in to their industry, take pride in the fact that you can learn from so many that have come before you, and those that you are learning from have never met someone like you before.. so they’ll be learning from you too.
