We recently connected with Delilah Dee and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Delilah, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My work ethic comes from a deep-rooted inspiration—being the daughter of a teenage immigrant. I’ve watched my mom juggle multiple jobs and side hustles just to keep a roof over our heads. Despite her hectic schedule, she always found time to show up for our family and give back to the community. Her dedication lit a fire inside me from a very young age. Watching the way she moved and navigated her circumstances always reminded me that I come from a lineage of hard workers. I truly believe that hard work is in my DNA, and it drives me to pursue my goals with the same passion and commitment she continues to demonstrate every day.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
As a proud Latina entrepreneur based in Philly, My work is all about empowering communities of color to elevate their mindset and potential. My mission is rooted in the resilience of my ancestors, and I’m dedicated to busting the myth that women of color should play small.
I’ve had the privilege of curating events and working in experiential marketing with renowned brands like iHeartMedia, Google, and HBO. This experience has helped me carve out a unique niche where I focus on building authentic communities that support and uplift one another. I thrive on creating initiatives that resonate with diverse demographics, turning casual engagement into lifelong loyalty.
What excites me most about my journey is the opportunity to create platforms centered solely around women. Whether through my podcast, events, philanthropy, or soon-to-launch e-commerce space, it’s a dream to use my voice and platform to bring joy and support to women in multiple ways.
I’m currently expanding my brand, Jefatona, and I can’t wait to share more about upcoming events and initiatives that will continue to uplift our community. The goal is to inspire others to embrace their dreams unapologetically, just as I’ve been inspired by so many incredible women around me.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back on my journey, three qualities that have been most impactful are the importance of human connection, the ability to embrace imperfection, and the skill of pivoting.
First and foremost, human connection is at the heart of everything I do. In today’s fast-paced world, many underestimate the value of building genuine relationships. For me, cultivating authentic connections has played a crucial role in advancing my career. My advice for those early in their journey is to prioritize networking and nurturing these relationships. Attend events, engage with your community, and remember that people are often willing to help if you approach them with sincerity.
Secondly, it’s essential to be okay with not being perfect. Many people, especially those from humble beginnings, feel pressure to present a polished version of themselves. But showing up authentically—embracing who you are and where you come from—is powerful. Don’t be ashamed of your background; it’s a vital part of your story and contributes to your unique perspective. Embrace your journey and allow that authenticity to shine.
Lastly, the ability to pivot is one of the most crucial skills you can develop. Building something from scratch often involves navigating unexpected challenges. Life will throw curveballs your way, and being able to adapt without panicking can make all the difference. Learn to view setbacks as opportunities for growth and be flexible in your approach. This mindset will help you stay resilient and continue moving forward.
Personally, I believe these qualities will not only enhance your journey but also empower you to navigate the complexities of your professional path with confidence.
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
Over the past 12 months, my biggest area of growth has been my personal fitness and wellness journey, and I’m incredibly proud of it. For a long time, I focused on showing up for others and pouring into their needs, often neglecting my own well-being.
This past year, I made a conscious decision to prioritize myself, and it has been a beautiful healing experience. By being intentional about my wellness, I’ve discovered the importance of nurturing my physical and mental health. While my progress might seem small to others, it holds deep meaning for me.
As I’ve invested in my own well-being, I’ve found that I’m able to pour even more into my work and everything I do. Taking care of myself has enhanced my energy and clarity, allowing me to be more present and effective in supporting my community. This journey has truly shown me that when we prioritize our wellness, we’re better equipped to uplift others.
