We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Delorean Todorut a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Delorean with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I would have to say that my work ethic comes from my parents.
My mother and father were both born in Romania and managed to flee during communism to start a new life here in the United States.
Since they were young, they always worked and had to provide something for the family.
My father, was one of 8 boys born to a poor farming family and managed to start up multiple businesses here in the states including a tailor shop that sparked my interest and added to my now career.
Work was something that was never optional. If you were caught sitting around, you got an ear full to say the least.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My name is Delorean and I own Artifact Embroidery.
We are a shop located in a small town called Yucaipa, CA. I established the business in 2018 in a small, 150 square foot office and now have a total working space of 3,000 square feet.
Our business specializes in embroidery, screen printing, patches/sewing, heat transfers, DTF Prints, woven labels and provide wholesale apparel.
We try to provide our clients with as many options possible while never sparing quality. We pride ourselves in paying close attention to detail.
We are a smaller team currently, however, we still manage multiple high volume orders/projects at any given time. In keeping a smaller, closely woven team, I believe this helps maintain a consistent quality within the products we provide to our clients .
My role is to work directly with clients to provide an exceptional quality service to satisfy the customers needs. I manage the invoicing, assist in setting up the clients’ artwork, facilitate shipping and receiving of products, quality assurance, and manage our social media platform.
I have my hands pretty full throughout any given day, but for me is a huge blessing.
The best part of what we do, from my point of view, the ability to work with such a variety of clients in every industry you can think of.
From construction companies, to coffee shops, snowboard companies- the list goes on. It’s amazing to see someone’s artwork come to life throughout the processes of each service we provide.
From the files being digitized for the embroidery process or seeing the screens being burned and cleaned for screen printing work. It’s very hands on and requires a sharp eye. It is a rewarding challenge.
It’s also incredibly rewarding to watch a client’s expression when they open up their order and visualizing such a sense of excitement come over them. That alone is very important to me in continuing this journey.
We are always searching to add more to our shop and the services we provide. Currently, we working on hosting several events in our gated outdoor area for near future car events, pop ups, and so much more to bring our community together and further our reach as well.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
First, I would have to say growing up and being very OCD pushed me to fixate on detail, work hard, and avoid cutting corners. I have always had to have things be in particular way, keep things organized, which is crucial in this industry among others.
Second, when it comes to something I want to achieve, I am incredibly persistent, which is not always easy to do with how fluid each and every day can be.
There have been plenty of times of doubt or rethinking, but I believe that if you are truly passionate about something, follow through, and keep on going. Try it out. I always remind myself that if I do try and fail, it’s still far more rewarding than not trying at all. I would recommend trying out a few different fields, get an idea of what you truly have a passion for or can’t seem to get your mind off of, get hands on, and experience it in real time. Sometimes having something in your mind can be a very different experience than actually doing and that’s perfectly normal. There will always be plenty of times of doubt but you need to overcome that and consistently apply yourself to your work. It becomes like second nature with time.
Last but not least, I also do not have the expectation of my self to reach the moon with success right out the gate. These kinds of things, like starting a business, take time. There are good days and bad days but they are all necessary to succeed.
Believe in yourself. Work hard. Remain humble and always strive for more.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
The most impactful thing my parent have done for me was believing in me, especially when I wasn’t certain about what I wanted to do.
They always supported me and pushed me to do better and to work harder. Watching them and being a witness to their work ethic, as well as hearing their stories growing up and what they went through, sparked a fire under me and fueled me to where I am today.
I honestly believed that I would never figure out my path and that really got to me for a few years.
Then one day, I found myself in an old friend’s shop helping him with some sewing and laser engraving projects work and this is where I really began to enjoy the process.
That sparked my interest and in turn my career.
