Meet DeMarcus Eddie Eckford

We were lucky to catch up with DeMarcus Eddie Eckford recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi DeMarcus Eddie , we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

I developed my confidence and self-esteem through faith, persistence, and showing up even when I was unsure. Coming from Oklahoma to L.A., I faced rejection and self-doubt, but I learned that confidence isn’t something you wait to feel—it’s something you build through consistency. Every “no” taught me discipline, every opportunity taught me growth. Today, my confidence comes from preparation, faith, and knowing I belong in the room.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m an actor, writer, and creator based in Los Angeles. I’ve been pursuing this journey for nearly two decades, taking on part-time work between gigs while continuing to build something meaningful in my own lane. Over the years, l’ve been fortunate to appear in several national commercials, a full episode of Wild West Chronicles, and most recently, a small role in Swiped on Disney+ and Hulu.
Right now, I’m focused on developing original projects—writing, producing, and documenting my real journey through Hollywood. I’ve learned to move with patience, faith, and purpose, trusting that the right opportunities come when the work speaks for itself.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Faith keeps me grounded when things don’t move as fast as I want them to. It reminds me that timing is everything. Persistence pushes me to keep showing up, even after rejection or doubt. And self-awareness helps me stay true to who I am in an industry that can easily make you forget.

For anyone starting out, don’t rush the process. Learn to trust yourself, show up consistently, and stay connected to your “why.” The rest will fall into place in its own time.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

When I feel overwhelmed, I have to pray. I talk to God every day — that’s what keeps me grounded and centered. For some people, it might be the universe or meditation (whatever your thing is), but for me, it’s faith. I take a step back, breathe, and remind myself that this too shall pass.

I’ve learned to ask myself, “What’s the worst that could happen?” and if I can handle that, I move forward. If I can’t, I pray for a solution and stay patient until one shows up. You have to believe in yourself, stand on your morals, and keep pushing no matter what. Surround yourself with good people — the kind who’ll tell you the truth and keep you accountable.

My advice is simple: stay persistent, stay faithful, and stay positive. Whatever you’re going through, it’s not forever.
