Meet Demario Hinds

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Demario Hinds . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Demario, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My main inspirations for my work ethic and drive comes from two great persons; Tupac Shakur and Kobe Bryant. These two individuals shaped how I take my work seriously, and how every shoot I do is meticulously planned and executed. From the concept to the post production phase, I work hard and smart to get the best results of my work.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a photographer, videographer and creative director based in Kingston, Jamaica. My main medium of photography is film, and I chose this specific medium because of my artistic style; which has to do more with a grunge and moody aesthetic and atmosphere. Film provides that at times and that’s why I stick to it more often than such. I shoot videos as well, and as an avid cinema lover, I try to encapsulate some of the work I love into my own visuals. Some persons who I look to for inspiration are the likes of, John Singleton, Tupac, Spike Lee…just to name a few.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Important qualities are subjective, but for me these are the three most important things:

The ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
The ability to adapt.
The ability to understand how to go about business, or business ethics.

I think all these qualities are important in their own significant ways, and each creative should try and implement them within their respective roles and journeys.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
My parents both created a space for me to understand and know that self belief is important. I would say it’s my third greatest trait of myself, next to being fearless and my work ethic. They instilled in me from a tender age that knowing yourself and believing in your abilities to do the greatest things, against all odds, is the greatest strength one can have. I’m forever grateful for that.
