We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Demetrius Bing a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Demetrius, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Its still a process, I constantly remind myself who I am and what Ive accomplished. I tell myself, “You were chosen and wanted because of your talent.” Its still like damn people really love what I created and see value of it. Outside forces such as : work associates, friends , and family are the ones that’ve had to adjust the most. I eventually feel I got in front of it and learned to accept my new reality. To be valued for more than my regular job and being a good friend is definitely a shock to the system. Now a household named artist in my community.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m an abstract expressionism painter. The most exciting this is there is no limits on what Ill create, i can unleash all my emotions, thoughts, and personal struggles that can be related on canvas. Symbolism and color scheme show the messaging in my work. Art of Bing is trying to collab with big brands to show my art in different views. I will be having shows that will be confirmed on my instagram page @artofbing
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
One skill was learning to know when to use dead space on the canvas to have powerful messaging in pieces to draw the viewer in. Another skill Ive learned was placement. The right strokes of the brush, layering the paint to provide depth. The last skill was activating my imagination. Not limiting my thoughts and creativity in the process of creating. I would advice artists in their journey to create everyday something not always a finished product just practice. Work harder than everyone
What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
My presence, learning to be present in these moments and realizing everyone doesn’t get these opportunities. Seize the moments! Actually start to realize my impact and influence to my audience
