Meet Denise Clarke

We were lucky to catch up with Denise Clarke recently and have shared our conversation below.

Denise , thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?

I keep my creativity alive by being alive. We are all creators and creative, but can forget this when we lean into negative feedback. As living beings, it is in our nature to be creative. It’s the essence of our existence. Fear and insecurity can be loud or distracting, but when I choose fearlessness and choose joy, I find myself connected to creativity in its purest form.

I also do not allow others who refuse to work with me or judge me stop me from believing in myself and counting on my perseverance, because success is also natural to consistency and growth. I refuse to quit because I cannot quit being me! I am alive!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Professionally, I am focused on collaborating and determination. I want to expand my creative collaboration with those willing to value me for my time and artistry. I have healthy boundaries and enjoy learning the realm of professionalism.

I want to work with, be accepted by, and collaborate with the Native American and Independent communities. I have always been a spiritualist with an ancestral background of indigenous blood that is a mystery to me as a Latina whose Mother passed away at an early age and whose father was never present. My mother heavily bestowed Native American beliefs into my core, so filmmaking with the culture would feel special.

You can expect more music and films from me, as well as published books and paintings. I have written three books due for publication and numerous screenplays due for filming. A store front is also in the works.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The three areas of knowledge that impacted me was that my truth is valid, my feelings are valid, and I am loved. I encourage those who believe otherwise to not give up on finding their inner voice until it is loudly and clearly stating how much you are loved and what your purpose is. This happens with patience and silence in order to filter the other streams of media and others’ opinions. This happens also in a deep state of creativity.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

The book Perfume used the most impactful craft of sensory wordplay that inspired me to tell a story with as much feeling and juice that I can so I can express myself enough to inspire, entertain, and heal.
