Meet Denise Vernon-dyson

We were lucky to catch up with Denise Vernon-dyson recently and have shared our conversation below.

Denise , so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

My journey to developing self-esteem and confidence began with understanding myself and how I interacted with those around me. I learned at a very young age that people who lack the discipline to nurture their confidence often resort to deflection. Growing up, I faced a significant amount of abuse and bullying from various sources. Yet, through it all, I made a choice to stand up for myself—a choice rooted in self-advocacy.

This understanding of the power of self-advocacy became the foundation of my confidence. I realized early on that if no one else would voice how I felt, I had to. If no one else would create opportunities, I would carve out my own path. That mindset has been my anchor, helping me not only survive but thrive, turning obstacles into stepping stones and silence into empowerment

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back on my life, I would say the most important qualities and skills I’ve developed are my ability to understand, listen, and practice patience with others through my community work end efforts. These traits have been invaluable in navigating both personal and professional relationships.

The advice I would offer to others is simple yet profound: trust your instincts and create opportunities that align with your vision and the path you’re pursuing. True success isn’t about being relevant in the eyes of others; it’s about cultivating relevance within your own garden—the space where your growth, purpose, and potential thrive. Nurture that, and everything else will fall into place.

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?

One of the challenges I am currently navigating is postpartum recovery as a mother again. This is my fourth biological child and my husband’s and my sixth child together, and honestly, it’s a lot to manage. I’m acutely aware that it takes about two years to fully recover postpartum, but having had four children back-to-back, I’m still in the process of healing from my first.

Balancing the roles of wife, mother, professional, entrepreneur, minister, and carving out personal time feels overwhelming most days. I tend to internalize my struggles, so on the outside, it may seem like I’m ‘holding it all together,’ but in reality, there are days when I feel like I’m drowning and can’t catch my breath.

Still, what keeps me pushing forward is knowing the legacy I am building. My children will have a foundation rooted in generational knowledge, wealth, and purpose. I understand that walking in purpose comes with sacrifices—chiefly sleep—but everything else is a lesson. These moments of challenge are refining me, ensuring that my legacy is solid and my family has a legacy of strength and resilience to stand on.
