Meet Denise Weyhrich

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Denise Weyhrich. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Denise below.

Denise, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?

As I was about to answer this question, BBC Radio 3 was celebrating International Women’s Day these lyrics were being played:

“We cannot make a joyful song unless we are moved by love. So let us sing our gentle praise to you our Lord God in Heaven.” (“Hear us in the heavens” Icelandic Song by Anna Thorvaldsdottir)

This optimism seems to be a life-long train of thought for me, along with an acceptance of my limitations and reliance on God. Finding hope in faith drives me forward, keeps me going and compels me to go into scary new frontiers. It is a gift from God!

Is not the act of creating a new fine artwork an step into a new frontier each time?… especially in trying a different direction? It is exciting to travel through the creative process but equally challenging as it may fall apart. Still there is the hope and assurance that the journey will reveal new discoveries. Even if it fails there is a lesson learned.

Moved forward by love!

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
As co-curator for SEEDS Fine Art Exhibits, (non-profit since 2004 providing conceptual art exhibits while advocating for artists,) we are producing artists interviews on Seeds Youtube Studio Chats. Now we are filming our time talking with artists we have known for years and in turn sharing their incredible story and inspiring artworks. It is an exciting experiment taking the gallery experience to a wider audience rather than only having brick and mortar space.  After 20 years of “knowing what we are doing” yes, it is terrifying presenting filmed interviews, instead of presenting the gallery walls.

Currently I am focused on recovering from cancer surgery and post operational complications, before the next surgery. After surviving 7 years living through ovarian cancer I am so grateful to God’s miraculous healing. In the meantime, ideas for the next artworks are sketched, gathered and archived for the moment, knowing that soon I will be able to complete.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Give the project your all. Fine artworks cannot be hurried.
Dedication to see the concept through completion. Trust yourself and allow the process to be organic.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
Cancer. Keep listening, helping others, look outward, pray a lot and trust God in the process.
So many fellow cancer victims have shared their sorrows, hurts and losses with me. We share a common enemy. Talking really helps as we are not alone is this. In the past years I have been following doctors’ orders, placing my personal comfort on hold and trusting the process of “a time to tear out, a time to heal.” Ecclesiastes 3:7
