We recently connected with Denisse & Jonathan (JD) Daniels and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Denisse & Jonathan (JD), appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
Neither of us grew up with a silver spoon. We both had to deal with much adversity which gave us a strong footprint for how we would be as adults. One of our biggest experiences of resilience was the birth of our second child. We knew when the doctors wanted to see us after our 20-week ultrasound that something wasn’t right. Sure enough, a rare condition was diagnosed, and we used the power of prayer and positivity to help guide us through the pregnancy. Without sharing too much information, our son is now thriving as a normal 12-year-old. We always tell each other, that nothing will ever be as difficult as that, and we can overcome anything.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Our brand has evolved the past 4+ years. We started off thinking that this would be a side job just to add some extra spending money. We did not expect to build such a great way for the community to gather and make memories. We want everyone to feel a sense of belonging. We have some great singers, some good and some that just like to have fun. We also have followers that come just to watch to be entertained. We want our friends to wake up the next morning and say, “Wow, that was so much fun last night.”
We currently host karaoke 4 nights a week at 3 different locations in Surprise, AZ. Each location brings different vibes and atmospheres. We often host special events such as, Mardi Gras Party, White Lie T-Shirt Party, Christmas Onesie Party, Summer Luau Party and our Birthday Perks. We started Birthday Perks in 2025 after noticing that we had over 40 Birthday celebrations with us in 2024. Birthday Perks includes, singing every hour regardless of how long our singer’s queue is. We also promote any type of birthday celebration such as an 80’s party. Although our availability is extremely limited, we also host private parties on occasion.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Funny enough, we met each other while working at Circuit City in 2003. No matter what you do, if you engage with people, customer service is such an important skill. We see a lot of talented singers that become hosts that typically doesn’t work out if customer service is not great. Being a karaoke host is more than a button pusher. We tune every singer every time to make them sound as best as we can.
The best advice that I have for someone early in their journey is to find your own style. People are never looking for the exact same show. Try different things and see what sticks. Also, never cross the line on what you say on the mic. Before we started hosting karaoke, we went to a lot of different karaoke shows and a karaoke host was very inappropriate on the mic. The host made it very uncomfortable situation, and we have never returned to that location since.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
As a team of 2, we have a great understanding of who can deal with the specific situation better. The good thing for us is that if we are feeling overwhelmed, it’s usually because we are extremely busy. That doesn’t mean that it’s easy. This question kind of goes back to the opening question, if there is anytime we feel overwhelmed doing entertainment, think back to the times we dealt with real difficult life situations and whatever you’re dealing with now does not compare.
Our job is to create a fun, exciting environment where people can forget about any worries. Not home, not work, not college, but a place where you can have fun and make memories. We have met amazing people throughout our journey. From young superstars to golden girls. From college kids that we have seen start and finish college and move on. We truly appreciate everyone that we have come to in contact with. It’s more than karaoke. It’s a lifetime of memories.
