Meet Dennis Walthers

We were lucky to catch up with Dennis Walthers recently and have shared our conversation below.

Dennis, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?

For me, creativity comes from staying curious—and staying connected.

I keep my creativity alive by constantly exploring what’s next, not just in technology, but in culture, art, and human behavior. I’m always asking, “What’s going to surprise people? What will they remember a week from now?” That mindset fuels our innovation at Interactive Dallas.

I spend time researching emerging tech—AI, projection mapping, mixed reality—and then I think about how those tools could be reimagined in a live event setting. But I also get inspiration from outside the event world: museum exhibits, film, design trends, even conversations with my kids. I believe great ideas often come from outside your industry.

And honestly, one of the best sources of creativity is listening to clients. They’ll tell you what they’re tired of seeing. That opens the door to create something new—something that’s not just flashy, but purposeful.

Lastly, I surround myself with a team that thrives on pushing boundaries. When you’re around people who want to try new things and aren’t afraid to take risks, creativity stays alive by default.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

At Interactive Dallas, we design interactive experiences that make live events unforgettable. Our activations blend art, technology, and imagination to create moments people actually remember—and talk about long after the event ends.

What makes our work so special is that it’s never one-size-fits-all. Every brand we work with has a different story to tell, and our job is to bring that story to life through high-impact, immersive experiences. From our Digital Graffiti Wall, where guests create live art projected onto massive surfaces, to our AI Photo Booth, which transforms guest portraits into surreal, styled images using artificial intelligence—everything we do is built to spark emotion, conversation, and connection.

One of the most exciting additions to our lineup is Iris Photography, where we capture the ultra-detailed patterns of a guest’s eye and turn it into a piece of modern art. It’s personal, intimate, and completely different from anything you’ll see at a traditional event. People are blown away by it—it’s more than a keepsake, it’s a conversation piece.

We’re also expanding our Wellness & Mindfulness activations, with offerings like VR meditation lounges and aromatherapy-based relaxation spaces—ideal for corporate events and conferences where guests need to recharge.

We’ve been fortunate to work with major brands like Nissan and Coca-Cola, and our calendar continues to grow. Between September and June, we often manage 6–10 events per week, ranging from 300 to 2,000+ guests. We primarily serve the Texas market, but our work takes us across the U.S. for select national campaigns.

At the end of the day, we’re not just offering technology—we’re helping brands and event planners create moments that move people. That’s what makes this work exciting every single day.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, three qualities have had the biggest impact on my journey: adaptability, relationship-building, and creative problem-solving.

Adaptability – The ability to pivot has been essential, especially when transitioning from a corporate executive to a creative entrepreneur. Markets change. Technology changes. Client needs shift. You have to be willing to evolve—not just your business, but your mindset.
Advice: Stay open to reinvention. Don’t get too attached to the first version of your idea—listen, learn, and adjust quickly.

Relationship-building – In both the corporate world and the event industry, relationships are everything. Clients, collaborators, vendors—they all want to work with people they trust. The best opportunities in my career came through long-standing relationships, not cold calls.

Advice: Focus on trust, not transactions. Treat every connection like a long game. You never know who will open the next door.

Creative problem-solving – Whether you’re troubleshooting an activation at a 2,000-person event or figuring out how to scale a niche concept into a national campaign, you need to be able to think quickly, stay calm, and find a solution.
Advice: Push yourself into unfamiliar situations. Creativity isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about being willing to explore new ones.

To anyone early in their journey: don’t wait until everything feels perfect. Start where you are, be a student of your industry, and surround yourself with people who challenge and support you. The path isn’t always linear—but that’s what makes the journey worthwhile.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

Yes—collaboration is a big part of how we grow and innovate at Interactive Dallas.

We’re always looking to partner with forward-thinking event planners, DMCs (Destination Management Companies), brand managers, experiential agencies, and corporate teams who are looking to bring something fresh and impactful to their events.

We also love working with artists, technologists, and creatives who are exploring new ways to engage audiences—whether through AI, interactive media, immersive design, or emerging tech.

If you’re planning a corporate event, conference, product launch, or live brand activation and want to create something that guests will remember and share—we’d love to talk. We’re based in Texas, but we travel nationally for the right opportunities.
