We recently connected with Denver Reynolds and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Denver, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
When I was younger, I loved building and helping others. I would help neighborhood friends build ramps for their skateboards. I would also help fix their bikes. My stepfather was an engineer and a DIY’er. I would tag along and he would let me help him with projects and I learned a lot that way. As a teenager I worked for a family friend with his painting business.
I worked in sales and it was something I enjoyed, but not something I loved. I had always dreamed of having a handyman business for years and decided to finally open up Handyman of the Bluegrass.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
What excites me most about the work I do is the transformation. I enjoy walking into a space, figuring out the best way to fix or improve it, and seeing the homeowner’s reaction when everything comes together. There’s something special about being the person people call when they need help when something breaks, when a project feels overwhelming, or when they just want their home to look its best. I take a lot of pride in doing the job the right way the first time.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. A Strong work ethic:
From the beginning, I learned that showing up, working hard, and doing the job right, no matter how big or small, builds trust faster than anything else. In this industry, reliability is everything. People remember who followed through and who didn’t.
2. Treating people right:
Skill matters, but the way you communicate, respect someone’s home, and follow through matters just as much. A lot of my work comes from referrals because people trust me, not just to do the job, but to be honest, fair, and easy to work with. I believe in treating people how I would like to be treated.
3. A willingness to learn and adapt:
Home repair and remodeling change constantly; new materials, new tools, new techniques. I never stop learning. Every job is different, and the best way to grow is to take on challenges and be open to improving your skills.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
I’ve had a lot of people influence my journey, but the most helpful has been my wife, Stacie. She’s the one who believed in this business from the very beginning and pushed me to take steps I might not have taken on my own. While I’m the one doing the hands-on work, she’s the one who keeps everything running behind the scenes, booking clients, handling quotes, organizing schedules, and building the brand that represents what I do. Her confidence in me has helped me take on bigger projects, stay focused, and grow in ways I wouldn’t have imagined when I first started.
