Meet Dequarius Nelson

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dequarius Nelson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with DeQuarius below.

DeQuarius, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

It all started when I was young. I remember waking up every day for school and aiming to be the best-dressed student. I always made sure my clothes were freshly ironed, and my shoes were spotlessly clean, right down to the shoelaces. I was adamant about ensuring my outfits matched and were well put together. Even when playing sports like football, I would always ask my mom for the newest cleats and matching gloves for every game. That’s where one of my nicknames, “Hollywood,” came from. My coaches dubbed me that because they said I always looked like a celebrity every time they saw me. As I got older, I realized how much I loved fashion. I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do, but I knew I wanted a career in fashion—something that involved being around clothes and putting pieces together. With this in mind, I prayed for guidance to find something I could relate to and enjoy. That’s when I felt drawn to the idea of being a personal stylist. After researching what it meant to be a stylist, I recognized that I had been naturally doing that for years. Friends, family, and even strangers in stores would gravitate toward me for fashion advice or seek my help in putting together outfits. It hit me then—that was something that filled my heart with joy, and nothing else mattered when I was in the moment of styling. That’s how I knew I had found my purpose in life.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

My name is DeQuarius Nelson and I am a Personal Stylist from Dallas, Tx. As a stylist I advise my clients on clothing styles, trends, colors and patterns. I help people to develop their unique sense of style and build a wardrobe that reflects their personality and makes them feel confident whether its an event, work, or even just personal branding.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, I would say that confidence, a strong work ethic, and the willingness to step outside the box and take risks have been the most impactful qualities throughout my journey so far. Additionally, being coachable and open to expanding your knowledge is essential, no matter what you pursue in life. These qualities demonstrate that you are willing to grow and reflect a level of respect and professionalism. If I could offer any advice, it would be to always remain open to learning. Many people reach a certain level of success and become complacent, but the truth is that there is always something new to learn in this world that can aid your progress.

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?

My ideal client is a professional athlete, particularly those in the NBA or NFL. With the growing emphasis on fashion in professional sports leagues, I aim to style athletes from these organizations. I find the trend of “tunnel fits” exciting, and I would love to see my work featured in that setting. Ultimately, I want to help build a brand with these athletes and enhance their personal style.
