Meet Derek McKeith

We were lucky to catch up with Derek McKeith recently and have shared our conversation below.

Derek, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
I believe that self confidence and self-esteem comes from your ability to overcome and deal with adversity. In my life I’ve had many situations that required I find a way to persevere and succeed, or failure and strife would be eminent. I also think having good, reliable, honest people with high moral character giving you advice helps enormously. Keeping a good circle around you is important.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a musician by trait, but I’ve also ventured into other avenues and passion projects that are essentially extensions of myself.

I’m the owner and founder of a coffee company, BAD BEANS COFFEE, and that’s been taking up most of my time lately. I also have my record label ELECTRIC LIFE RECORDS MG, founded 2003. I have my own music publishing company, focused and currently placing music in TV/ film projects. I’d say I have a full plate.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I think one of my best qualities and skills, is the ability to listen, and not have to speak. Allowing myself to be taught, and coached by those who know more than me, and who have achieved what I’m trying to achieve is another. Lastly, I know how to humble myself.

If you’re early in your career on your journey to success, adopting these skill sets will help you immensely. It will set you apart from the pack.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I’m always open to collaboration, if it’s the right situation. I’m open to ideas, so feel free to send me an email at [email protected] if it’s coffee related.

If it’s regarding music, send me a DM – Instagram – @derekmckeith

I’d love to hear from everyone. Thank you in advance.
