We were lucky to catch up with Derek Pratt recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Derek, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
I wanted to share a little about my journey with confidence and self-esteem. For me, it started at home. From an early age, my parents reminded me every single day that I could do anything I put my mind to. That belief wasn’t just words—it became the foundation of how I viewed myself and the world around me.
Because of their encouragement, I grew up with the confidence that challenges weren’t barriers, but opportunities. My family has always been an incredible support system, and their love and belief in me helped me build the resilience and drive I carry with me today.
That foundation is something I try to pass on to others now: the understanding that confidence isn’t given, it’s built—and with the right support and mindset, anyone can achieve more than they ever thought possible.
Best,
Derek

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
What I do is all about helping people unlock their full potential—physically, mentally, and emotionally. As a trainer and entrepreneur, I’ve built my career around creating workouts, events, and content that inspire people to move, challenge themselves, and realize they’re capable of more than they imagined. What excites me most is watching that transformation happen—when someone goes from doubting themselves to standing taller, smiling bigger, and carrying new confidence into every part of their life. That’s the spark I live for.
What’s special about this journey is that it’s never just about the workouts. It’s about community, consistency, and building daily habits that ripple into everything else. Through DC Fit, the TRX App, and our brand collaborations, I’ve been able to connect with people all over the world who share that same drive to grow.
Looking ahead, we’re continuing to expand—bringing new events, collaborations, and experiences to life. From rooftop workouts and beach sessions to innovative brand partnerships, our goal is always the same: create powerful, positive moments that people carry with them long after the workout is done. If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, the three qualities that shaped my journey the most were consistency, resilience, and the ability to connect with people. Consistency taught me that showing up every day—no matter how small the step—creates momentum and builds real results over time. Resilience helped me push through setbacks and keep moving forward when things didn’t go as planned. And learning how to genuinely connect with people made all the difference, because building relationships and community is what truly sustains growth.
For anyone just starting out, my advice is simple: build habits that keep you consistent, even on the days you don’t feel motivated. Embrace challenges as opportunities to get stronger—they’re part of the process, not roadblocks. And finally, invest in people. Surround yourself with those who lift you up, and be that person for others too. If you can focus on those three areas, you’ll not only grow faster, but you’ll enjoy the journey along the way.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
The most impactful thing my parents ever did for me was something so simple, but so powerful—they told me every single day that I could do anything I put my mind to. They didn’t just say it once in a while; it was a constant reminder that became part of my identity. That belief gave me the confidence to dream bigger, to go after opportunities, and to never back down from challenges.
I took those words and ran with them. Anytime doubt crept in, I went back to that foundation: if I was willing to put in the work, I could figure it out and make it happen. That mindset has carried me through tough times, big goals, and moments when giving up would’ve been easier. It taught me that the real power isn’t in what people say you can’t do, but in what you decide you can.
