Meet Deroll Scarlett

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Deroll Scarlett a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Deroll , so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?
That’s an excellent question. Being headquartered in New York could be considered a blessing or a curse. On one hand, you’re in one of the world’s largest fashion hubs—and on the other hand, you’re fighting to be seen among the best. We take these factors into consideration with each collection that we launch. Our customer won’t have to worry about attending any event and seeing 20 people in the same look. Our customers pick the fabric and our design team does the rest. No more expensive bowties. We take pride in giving our customers exclusive, priority access to the latest styles.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
A TYED BY DEDE customer won’t have to worry about attending an event and having 20 people in the same tie: don’t you hate that? Lol. You pick the fabric, and we’ll do the rest. Our luxury custom-made bow tie and tie accessory sets our customer apart to be an edgy individual. I’ve been wearing bow-ties for years now, and the majority of my collections are homemade ties. I started making my own bow-ties for multiple reasons: • Bow-ties are hard to find in stores • Bow-ties in stores are expensive • I don’t have enough hobbies (yeah, right…)

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Our goal is to focus and re-direct our energy on promoting TYED BY DEDE’s positivity, providing multiple solutions, and re-defining our mindset through the remembering and unity of our community through the support of businesses, entrepreneurs, and community organizations

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I would see the bow tie industry-shifting into the lives of many grooms, groomsmen, husband and bow tie enthusiast.
