We recently connected with Derrick Wesley and have shared our conversation below.
Derrick, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
My journey to discovering my purpose was deeply rooted in my spiritual path. I found my calling by growing closer to God, which led me to connect my work with my passion and the things I deeply care about. After college, I embarked on a quest for fulfillment, trying various jobs and chasing financial gains. Yet, I always felt an emptiness within me. It was during a five-year stint at a job that I had a significant realization – I valued helping others over accumulating wealth.
This revelation prompted a pivotal decision: I took a leap of faith and transitioned into teaching, fully aware of the financial challenges it posed. Surprisingly, this career change brought immense joy. Teaching allowed me to make a meaningful impact, serving others and not just myself. As I delved deeper into this purpose, doors to new opportunities began to open.
This transformative journey eventually led me to the founding of Seedlyng Financial Education. Seedlyng is not just a project; it’s a manifestation of my belief in the power of education and financial literacy to transform lives. Through faith, service, and a commitment to making a difference, I found my purpose and continue to be inspired by the positive impact we can create together.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
At Seedlyng Financial Education, our mission is simple yet profound: to empower individuals with the knowledge and skills to navigate the complexities of personal finance. We believe that financial literacy is not just a skill; it’s a cornerstone for a stable and prosperous future. What makes our journey particularly exciting is the diverse impact we’re creating across the globe.
One of the most exhilarating aspects of our work is the reach we’ve achieved. Seedlyng has touched lives in schools spanning from the heart of Texas to the vibrant city of Chicago, the serene landscapes of Idaho, the bustling streets of New York, and even extending our educational outreach to Lebanon in the Middle East. Our commitment to making financial education accessible has made us a vetted vendor for all of Region 10 in Texas, a testament to the effectiveness and quality of our programs.
In our continuous pursuit of expanding our impact, we’ve recently launched a groundbreaking initiative in partnership with Workforce Snohomish. Through this collaboration, we’ve introduced a weekly virtual workshop tailored for young individuals aged 14-24 in Snohomish County. This venture reflects our dedication to reaching out to diverse communities, helping them build strong financial foundations for their futures.
What sets Seedlyng apart is not just the knowledge we provide, but the transformative experiences we offer. Our interactive workshops, innovative tools, and personalized approach make learning about finances engaging and relatable. We’re not just imparting information; we’re fostering a mindset of financial empowerment.
As we look ahead, we’re excited about the possibilities. We’re constantly exploring new avenues, refining our workshops, and embracing technological advancements to enhance our educational offerings. Stay tuned for more updates on upcoming events, product launches, and community partnerships. Together, we’re paving the way for a financially literate and empowered future.
