Meet Derron Campbell

We recently connected with Derron Campbell and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Derron, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

I think that’s just a matter of following the path that comes naturally to you, we are all born with a certain gift/talent but too often we abandon those things and try to be what we think others want us to be. For me I’ve been an artist my whole life, starting with illustration, to music, then photography and now film making, each skill builds upon the previous.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I am a director, cinematographer and editor, i provide services in multiple areas of the film making process, from pre – production , filming, post production and delivery of the final product. My latest finished project is set to be released Early 2025 called “Bloody Money” a feature film which i was the director of photographer, editor and colorist. I’m currently editing another feature which i was also the Cinematographer, a holiday film called “We Are Family”

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I woulda patience, problem solving, and not being afraid to take chances and fail. Failures are important on the path to journey to success, every one contains valuable lessons for leveling up your skills and knowledge

We’ve all got limited resources, time, energy, focus etc – so if you had to choose between going all in on your strengths or working on areas where you aren’t as strong, what would you choose?

We are all familiar with the quote “Jack of all trades, master of none” but very few people are familiar with the full quote which is “Jack of all trades, master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one” which is what i believe.
You should always strive to be as knowlegable as possible in your profession, though naturally your going to excel more in some areas.
