Hi DeShaun, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

Remember you can never stand out if you’re too determined to blend in. Master your tunnel vision and focus on what you aim to accomplish because there’s room for all of us. I’ve always been somewhat of an alien in the room. Especially since I moved to Texas as a preteen, due to the dramatic difference in culture, pace and life in general in comparison to my small town upbringings in North Carolina I’ve always viewed things differently. Especially when it comes to music.
Now that we’re here in 2025 and I’ve become an artist myself that hasn’t changed at all. I just strive to be better and grow with every piece of art I give to the world. Besides, art is limitless. There are no number of spots we have to compete for to be noticed. If you’re dope at what you do and put in the work to get out to the masses your time is bound to come. Has anyone ever told you they reached their monthly limit on good music? No. So stop worrying about what someone else accomplished and keep working towards your own achievements.

DeShaunJay is a rising star in the music industry and a talented artist who hails from Bolton, NC but now calls San Antonio, TX home. His love for music began at a very young age, and he has been honing his craft ever since. DeShaun made a name for himself in 2014 when he founded the Flourish Gang; from which he’s released several successful projects, including the highly anticipated Phone Calls 4 which dropped in early 2023. In 2021 he was elected as Brand Ambassador for MVP Vibes. Under new management and partnerships with Chopstars/COREDJ’s DJ Hollygrove and Set Da Tone Records. There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

My ability to adapt because this entertainment industry will change out of nowhere especially with technology and social media. I’m also grateful for my prior experience in music. I’ve been involved with music as long as I’ve been able to talk one way or another and it’s definitely helped me when it comes to writing and recording. Lastly, my resilience. This journey ain’t for everybody. I started this musical mission in a group of 6-7 artists, every one of them more experienced than myself and now…it’s just me. This life as a creative can be tedious and stressful honestly especially when you’re truly doing it on your own with your team, no machines behind you. You WILL take losses, you WILL have some dark moments and rough days but nothing worth having comes easy right? You have to stay focused on the end game even when it doesn’t feel reachable at times.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

Most definitely! Artists, producers, even content creators feel free to reach out on my socials or just hit my email. But if you’re reaching out to collaborate on music all I ask if that you do a little research on mine first. Especially if you’re a producer. Don’t waste your time sending me what you send anybody that ask for beats. Let’s try and put something together that makes sense for the both of us. Artists, I’m pretty easy to work with, all I need to know is a concept and how long I need to rap. The rest will come together.
