Meet Deshawn Davis

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Deshawn Davis a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Deshawn with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

My Work ethic comes from not only GOD, but also my Parents. They have always taught me that hard work always pays off and I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me. Even though my Dad has left, My mom has never given up on anything along with raising kids alone. She has told all of us the “Best is yet to come” and I Believe it will. Also coming from a military family giving up was not an option.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Originating from the lively streets of Lafayette Louisiana , Kansas city, and
Dallas, Texas. Graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Digital Cinematography at Full Sail University, they combine their academic foundation with hands-on experience to deliver compelling narratives. I am Filmmaker director, in is own creative world of storytelling behind the camera, including expertise in sound editing and designing. celebrated for his distinct cinematic touch. I have shot and directed over 20 music videos. Furthermore, also directed, edited, and sound designed film projects and commercials along the way.

Film, for me, has always been more than just saying “Cut or Action”, or picking
the right sounds ; it’s a canvas where i paint a picture for the audience to engage
through every scene. Every frame I craft is a blend of my experiences telling
stories that anyone can relate to. As a sound editor, I aim to bridge the gap , and
.ensuring that the audience is fully immersed in the story. By combining
technical skills, creativity, and a strong attention to detail. Contribute to the
emotional impact and overall success of a film.

I am currently working on my First Action Film, “The Drop” . I would consider it as my Michael Bay debut, especially since I am a big fan of his work. Another one is a Drama “Caged Quiet”

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The three qualities that were impactful in my journey were Confidence, Leadership, and creativity. In the film industry one of the hardest things to do is be confident cause of all the criticism out there can ruin your self esteem. You have to believe that every project you do Will do well and that it is a masterpiece. Also being a great leader, will get you so much respect and admiration. With that being an open minded one and hearing others ideas can bring the project to life as well. At the end of the day, filmmaking is a team effort. I love being creative, even though it has it challenges cause of writers block etc.

The advice I have is to never give up, don’t let anyone talk you out of your position. Have true friends that are respectful and open minded. still create even when you cannot be on set or film. Write that script!.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

Yes I would love to partner up with any big major studios or brands. I would love to collaborate with anyone that enjoys and have the passion for filmmaking. I had done shoots where I didn’t get paid at all, because this is what I love to do. Do we all want to get paid doing what we love? of course, But that’s not what i’m in it for. I’m here to make stories that people can relate to and enjoy
