Meet Desiree

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Desiree. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Desiree below.

Desiree, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?

My confidence and self esteem was secure and developed at a young age! Growing up, I was always taught to be confident in everything I pursued in life. My confidence also comes from being secure with myself and surrounding myself around people who are also confident. Even as a kid I knew who I was. I might not have known exactly where I was going at the moment but, I knew that I had this fearless spark inside of me that I trusted to guide me. I’m not perfect and I don’t present myself as such, my self-esteem is something that has grown with me in life. I have moments of uncertainty or times where I overthink about what people might think but, I also am aware that I’m living my life for me and not others! I don’t fixate over the opinions of others for too long. People will always have something to say good or bad. However, I focus on what I can control which is how hard I work and how deeply I believe and trust myself. That’s what keeps my confidence and self-esteem high.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I am currently a free-lance model, meaning I’m not signed to an agency. Therefore, it’s up to me to hustle and make connections in order to get myself booked for photoshoots and fashion shows. I am very hands on with putting things in motion for myself as a model. I’ve walked in shows for New York and LA Fashion Week, I also walk in shows in the Bay Area for a company named TrapxArt which is where I started modeling and making connections. I like to show up to set as more than just a pretty face, I’m the type of muse that loves to be apart of the creative vision behind the scenes as well, such as creating concepts and themes for the photoshoots. I enjoy being hands on when it comes to wardrobe and styling, putting looks together excites me the most. I just really love executing my creativity and bringing it to life, and I’m always ready for my next project! However, a true baddie has the ability to wear multiple hats. I also have a career as a Medical Assistant and Phlebotomist in the Emergency Department at a level one trauma facility in San Francisco. As soon as I graduated high school I knew I needed to do something where I’d always be needed in the world, and the medical field for sure could guarantee that. I have an audience of people who often ask me how I balance working in the ER and modeling. Honestly, nothing is easy but I push myself to make time for everything I want to do in life. Handling my responsibilities and providing for myself is always the first priority, but I also realized how important it is to follow my dreams and express my creativity. The most exciting thing about juggling all that I do is being able to save lives by day and slay on the runway immediately after! Although the two are different, my work ethic in the medical field has also helped me as a model because I’m able to be patient, work and grow with others, and execute the job that needs to be done. What’s next for me in modeling will be more runway shows. As for what’s next for me in the medical filed I will be applying to nursing school very soon to obtain my BSN.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, I think the quality skills that helped me were being in a household with hard working parents, I watched my parents hustle for everything and I developed that ethic of working hard for everything I want. I also was never a follower growing up, I always did my own thing, I love myself and am able to spend time alone I never needed a crowd of people around me all the time to validate the choices I was making. I feel that having the ability to be your own biggest cheerleader is a huge skill and such a rare yet important quality to have. However, support from my family and peers has had a huge impact on my journey. I’ve been blessed to be able to have a village of people who genuinely love and support all that I do. My advise for those who are on their journey weather you’re just getting started or have already been on your journey is to never fold on yourself! Nothing in life is easy, continue to learn, grow, and show up for yourself because there is always someone watching and you never know who your impacting because you didn’t give up! Also, live this one life that we have to the fullest, do all the things that make you happy, or even the things that might scare you, challenge yourself, and be. kind along the way!

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

As a model I am always looking for people to collaborate with like photographers for photoshoots, or designers for brand clothing and fashion shows! I also want to connect with people who write and make films, I would love to venture into movies, TV, and commercials I also have acting experience. The best way to reach me is via email: [email protected] or Instagram: @Theyall_lovedesi. I hope to gain new relationships with creatives and I’m ready to get to work. I love new projects and coming together to bring a vision to life!
