Meet Desiree Fabello

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Desiree Fabello. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Desiree, so happy you were able to devote some time to sharing your thoughts and wisdom with our community. So, we’ve always admired how you have seemingly never let nay-sayers or haters keep you down. Can you talk to us about how to persist despite the negative energy that so often is thrown at folks trying to do something special with their lives?

1. My Purpose Drives Me

I’ve built my photography business, Foreign Perceptions Photography and Design, from a place of passion and creativity. Knowing that I’m capturing moments that bring joy to others keeps me grounded, no matter what negativity comes my way.

2. I’ve Already Overcome So Much

Surviving cancer, enduring personal trauma, and rebuilding my life have given me a deep well of resilience. When I think about all I’ve conquered, other people’s opinions seem small in comparison.

3. I Learn from Every Experience

Not all criticism is bad—I take what’s helpful and discard the rest. Even negative comments can teach me something, whether it’s about improving my craft or understanding someone else’s perspective.

4. My Clients Remind Me Why I Do This

When clients choose me to capture their special moments or tell me how much they love their photos, it drowns out any doubt. Their trust and appreciation validate my work far more than any negative voice could.

5. I Rely on Faith

My faith in Jesus is a huge source of strength. When I feel discouraged, I turn to prayer and scripture, knowing He has a greater plan for me.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

What makes my work special is the personal connection I aim to build with every client. Photography isn’t just about taking pictures—it’s about telling a story, freezing time, and creating something timeless.

What excites me most about my work is seeing the joy my clients feel when they view their photos for the first time. Whether it’s a couple celebrating their engagement, a high school senior embracing their future, or a bride cherishing her wedding day, each moment is unique, and I’m honored to preserve it.

One thing that sets my photography company apart is my dedication to creating a comfortable and relaxed experience. I offer posing guidance, provide interest-free payment plans, and ensure a quick turnaround time, because I want every client to feel cared for from start to finish.

My photography journey has been deeply personal. Overcoming challenges like cancer and trauma has made me value the beauty in life’s smallest details, and I try to bring that perspective into my work. I hope my photos reflect not just what people look like, but who they are.

For those curious about what’s next, I’m always exploring new creative ideas and expanding my landscape photography, which is my personal passion. I also offer photography mentorships to guide others who want to pursue this craft. I’m grateful for the opportunity to do what I love and look forward to sharing more of my art with the world.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Life has thrown me many challenges, from surviving cancer to overcoming personal trauma, but resilience has been my greatest strength. I’ve learned to push through fear, doubt, and setbacks to build a business and life that align with my passions.
Advice for the readers: Develop resilience by embracing challenges as opportunities for growth. Life will have setbacks, but focusing on your “why” and taking things one step at a time will help you stay grounded.

Be willing to adapt—whether it’s learning new techniques, embracing something I fear, or shifting gears in response to client needs—is what kept my business relevant and helped me thrive.
Advice: Stay open to change. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and try something new. Flexibility will help you navigate obstacles and seize unexpected opportunities.

I’ve always been eager to learn, whether it’s refining my photography skills, mastering editing, or even understanding the business side of things. This drive to improve has allowed me to evolve as both an artist and an entrepreneur.
Advice: Never stop learning. Take courses, seek mentorship, and always ask questions. Invest in your skills, and remember that growth doesn’t happen overnight—it’s a continuous process.

For those early in their journey, my advice is to focus on building a solid foundation in these areas. Stay persistent, keep an open mind, and never lose sight of your goals. Growth takes time, but every step forward is worth it.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

Absolutely! I’m always open to collaborating with like-minded individuals and businesses who share a passion for creativity and storytelling. Personally, I specialize in a variety of photography services, including portraiture, weddings, engagement sessions, and landscape photography, and I’m eager to partner with others to expand what I can offer to clients.
