We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Destiny Adams a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Destiny, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
My mother has taught me the valuable lesson of resilience, helping me face any obstacle that comes my way. She is an inspiring figure who has achieved extraordinary feats throughout her lifetime, despite facing immense challenges. She has earned a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology while balancing a full-time job, writing a book, and promoting her thriving business. During my adolescence, I struggled with the absence of my father in my life, but I developed coping mechanisms to overcome this obstacle. I also spoke to my mother about this issue, and she encouraged me to use my experiences to empower and motivate others. Inspired by her, I created journals to help those who are hurting, suffering from mental health issues, or in need of an outlet.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I want to share with readers that I am a 16-year-old entrepreneur who creates journals, affirmation books, composition books, and activity books. Additionally, I am excited to announce that I will be selling my homemade brownies at three upcoming events: Blown Away Adventures at the Boys and Girls Club in Mesquite, TX on 11/4, the Children’s Entrepreneur Market at Russell Farm in Burleson, TX on 11/17 and the Children’s Entrepreneur Market at Heritage Park in Irving, Texas on 12/16. Please don’t miss out on the opportunity to indulge in my delicious brownies while supporting young entrepreneurs!
As a creator, I find two things particularly exciting. Firstly, the freedom to expand beyond creating journals, affirmation books, and composition books. I plan to broaden my horizons by writing comic books and other types of books. Secondly, seeing my vision come to life and sharing it with the world is incredibly rewarding. Every time someone purchases my products, it’s a thrilling moment.
In the near future, I plan to expand my business by offering packages that can be shipped directly to customers. Additionally, I want to create products that cater to all ethnicities and age groups. I believe that my products are unique because they promote positivity and focus on mental health. As someone who values mental health, I understand the importance of having an outlet. My products provide readers with encouragement through words of affirmation and scripture.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
In my journey, I have come to realize that determination, drive, and ambition are the qualities that make the most impact. To all aspiring young entrepreneurs, age is no barrier to success. My sincere advice is to wholeheartedly commit to honing your craft, understanding that not every customer will share your vision, and embracing a mindset of constant growth and refinement. I always strive to better myself and find ways to improve. Recently, I participated in my first vendor event on September 23rd, which gave me valuable insights. This opportunity helped me identify which of my products resonated with customers and also highlighted areas where I could improve. With this firsthand experience, I am now better equipped to enhance my skills as a business owner.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
My journey towards success has been greatly influenced by my mother and my mentoring group, Pretty Blessed Girls (located in Fort Worth). My mother has been the most valuable person in my life, guiding me through difficult times and providing me with essential skills for success. The Pretty Blessed Girls mentoring group has also been incredibly supportive, providing me with skills and a community beyond what my mother could offer. I’ve been a member of this group for over three years now and I only wish I had discovered it sooner. Together, my mother and this mentoring group have transformed my life, giving me the confidence to be true to myself, nurturing my talents, and pushing me to be the best version of myself.
