We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Destiny Frye a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Destiny, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I believe my resilience just comes from the adversity that I faced growing up. Which for me after a while felt very normal so every time I faced rejection it was second nature to continue and quitting or failure was never an option.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I was originally born and raised in San Diego, California but at the young age of 17, I packed all my bags and move to New York City where I attended The American Musical and Dramatic Academy on the upper West side of New York. After finishing my studies and finding work, I started my own dance company out of New York City and later on I began the creation of Hip Hop Dreamz where we performed Madison Square Garden the Barclays Center of Times Square, New York fashion week NBC live and many more.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Being a People person is definitely some thing I take pride in. I enjoyed being around other creators like myself it just inspires me to keep working also staying positive in a world where a lot of things can go wrong being a problem solver always helped me and achieving my goals.
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
My favorite book would have to be “The mastery of love “ and. The four agreements by Don Miguel Luis . It’s just such a good reset. That holds me accountable. In such a way that I didn’t even realize possible. It’s so refreshing and so inspiring and realistic. Everyone should definitely check it out.
