Meet Destiny Muhammad

We recently connected with Destiny Muhammad and have shared our conversation below.

Destiny, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

My Resilience comes from my relationship with GOD/ The Infinite Everlasting ONE.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

My name is Destiny Muhammad, Harpist from the Hood. For over two point five decades, My Husby Cristwell Muhammad and I have been Fulltime MusicPrenuers. Cristwell as Road Manager/ Sound Tech Advisor and me as Harpist / Vocalist Composer, composing, reimagining, performing and producing JAZZ and JAZZ Inspired sonic experiences on Harp/ Solo Shows/ Trio/ Quartet/ and String Ensembles. Our journey from performing at Farmers Markets, Family Life Celebrations and Rites of Passages to Residencies, Partnerships, Commissionings, Sponsorships, Fellowships and more.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Qualities/ skills that continue to be the most impactful on my journey:(SOOOO MANY)

1. I have an unapologetic, continuous relationship with GOD. I ask GODs for Guidance in everything I do.
2. A willingness to learn and apply what I learned in real time.- tweak the information to suite each circumstance.
3 Celebrate every win and build upon each success.
4. Be kind and courteous to everyone and apply wisdom with kindness
(begin this practice with Self, family and friends privately and publicly)
5. Know when silence is the most appropriate response.
6. Study mastering ones craft daily.
7. Manage Money Wisely

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

My wonderful husband Cristwell Muhammad has been generous in sharing his wisdom with me from his previous work as a Festival Producer, Production Manager and StageHand. We research together mentors to guide me on next evolution of my Artistry and The Business of Being an Artist. Pre Covid and the advent of ZOOM, he drove me to Los Angeles every weekend for three months for composition course hosted by Musicians Union Local 47, not to mention driving crosscountry with Harp in tow for performance collaborations in Detroit, New York, Washington DC, Chicago and Los Angeles. Cristwell lovingly and with a no nonsense attitude soothed my tears when i was ‘dismissed’ from jobs by celebrities and celebrated every success great and small encouraging me to write my sonic visions and share them with the world.
