Meet Detrich Swain

We were lucky to catch up with Detrich Swain recently and have shared our conversation below.

Detrich, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
I’ve always been sort of confident with a higher self esteem. And as a kid you still have your not so sure moments. But I believe as I got older, my confidence and self esteem came more. I rarely care what someone thinks of me and what I’m doing. I try to stay focused on the vision God gave me along with the self confidence of my skill set. I believe in myself and what I want to do, even when nobody else does.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am an Entrepreneur/Writer/Hip Hop music artist. What’s most exciting about what I do is the freedom of expression and the creativity that it allows me. Something else that I would like people to know about my art is that it’s very positive and family oriented. I write and create music that touches souls gives out positive and high vibrations. You can play my music around anyone and not feel ashamed or feel you have to censor and hide my verbiage. I am currently in the works of expanded my brand and my music label Black Creative Mind, LLC. There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I would say belief, talent and education. I went back to school at the age of 38 and 39 to pursue and attain my bachelor’s degree in Business Management and my Master’s in Business Administration. I felt like this would help me in my entrepreneurial endeavors. I like to leave no stone unturned when trying to be successful. Eventually something will stick. My advice to others is to have a clear goal in mind, write it down and take the necessary steps to get there. Believe in yourself and your vision regardless, and most of all, keep God first!

Yes, I am always looking for other people to collaborate with. The meeting of different minds can be a beautiful thing. I would love to collaborate with other writers, musicians, podcasters, authors and any entrepreneurs of any type if we can benefit each other. I am a very open person to new ideas and benefits.
