Meet Devante Byrd

We were lucky to catch up with Devante Byrd recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Devante , thank you so much for making time for us today. Let’s jump right into a question so many in our community are looking for answers to – how to overcome creativity blocks, writer’s block, etc. We’d love to hear your thoughts or any advice you might have.
In the words of the great Atlanta artist Jelani Imani WRITERS BLOCK DOES NOT EXIST! It truly only stems from fear of creating something short of your absolute best at all times. For me I just don’t take myself to seriously so I’m able to throw just about anything at the wall to see if it sticks without expecting every idea to be a magical one. Many great ideas are just pieces of several ideas that may have been bad individually but have elements that could be beneficial.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Im Devante Byrd and currently I guess I call my self a music journalist but ultimately I just shine light on things I enjoy. I have a media blog titled HapticFeedbackUS and ultimately I use all my talents (writing, podcasting, and photography) to shed light on great talent in the Atlanta art scene. I’m in the midst of season 2 of my podcast and it has a cool theme this time around.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three skills I’ve leaned on in order to cultivate the bit of buzz I have now have been pretty easy because they are all natural. Curiosity, preparation, and persistence. I tend to just stay curious about the current state of the underground scene by going to shows, listening to artist that others share or repost. I prepare well by planning show rundowns days in advance of my actual podcast recording dates. Lastly, I just stick with it. Things move slow until they don’t and fortune always favors the patient and persistent plus I just really love the process.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
My number one problem is resources honestly. I have vision, I am pretty, organized, and I think I’ve made great strides in the actual creation of my podcast. I think just seeking out opportunities to gain sponsorship or to just drop my show all together for a spot on a larger platform would do wonders for me.
