We were lucky to catch up with Devin Ann Griffin-White recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Devin Ann, so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?
The way that I learned to be effective/successful even when I am the only one in the room that looks like me is to be me! I am perfectly created the way God intended for me to be (possibly not with all the tattoos though, lol) If I am in the room that means that God placed me in that room for a specific reason! I do not believe that things happen my circumstance I believe that everything happens with reason! So I have learned to be me and to speak my truth and always be kind, insightful, transparent, a leader, and a student when entering any room! I never look at it as being “the only one that looks like me” in any room because we all are created equal yet unique and different so no one will ever look like me in any room, however I do look at as an opportunity to grow and make connections that could not only catapult me to higher levels but others as well! My daddy taught me the definition to win is to put someone in position to win that has the ability to but never thought they could win!

Hey there!

My name is DevinAnn Griffin-White, I am the wife to Eric D. White, my biggest supporter, prayer partner, best friend, and business partner, the “gwanny” to the most precious two grandbabies ever, L3 my grandson and Nefertiti the most beautiful granddaughter ever! If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
If I had to name three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in my journey I would have to stay those three things would a consistent prayer life, consistency and persistence, and continuing my education in my respected field of marketing. Okay, that’s four but they are what has been most impactful throughout my journey.

I’ve been a business owner since August of 1999, I have had many lows and highs in business. I have had event centers, restaurants, and a few other ventures but I never quit. All I knew was that my purpose was to serve in some capacity and I was not going to stop until I figured it out. At 45 I still don’t have it all figured out but each day God gives me grace to wake up I get closer to it. have taken a few breaks, re strategized , renamed, changed industries and all but I never stop allowing God to lead nor did I ever quit. That is something that I encourage anyone that is early in their business journey, pray over all aspects of your business, and when things get rough take a break, go back to the drawing board and start over if you have to but DO NOT QUIT! I will also say never stop being a student, always be open to learning and growing in your respected field.

Things will get hard and believe you me, they will and you will want to throw in the towel and give up but don’t, you got this, YOU CAN DO IT! I suggest you stop and take a breath and remember why you wanted to do whatever it is in the first place feed on that same energy. Rome was not built in a day and neither will your business be. When things go wrong and they will instead of getting down a quitting or getting frustration look for solutions , analyze what went wrong start over at the point and figure it out!

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
Of course the the Bible has and will always be my go to in all areas of life, if I had choose a business book or two I would say would be The Power of I Am by Joel Osteen and The Power of Discipline by Daniel Walter.

When it comes to business a few nuggets I could drop would be is to know your audience, understanding your target audience is fundamental. Tailor your strategies, products, and messages to resonate with their needs, preferences, and behaviors. A deep understanding of your audience is the foundation for successful marketing. Embrace change and innovation the business landscape is dynamic. Embrace change and stay agile. Be open to innovation, whether it’s adopting new technologies, refining processes, or exploring creative marketing approaches. Adaptability is a key driver of long-term success. BE CONSISTENT! Consistency builds trust, consistency is vital in branding and marketing. Maintain a cohesive brand image across all touchpoints. Consistent messaging, design, and experiences build trust and credibility with your audience over time. Focus on value creation:, instead of solely promoting products or services, focus on creating value for your customers. Solve their problems, fulfill their needs, and provide meaningful experiences. Businesses that prioritize value creation build stronger and more lasting relationships.

A saying I live by is Life is a gift from God – never take it for granted- live and love unbiasedly! Chose right over wrong, logic over emotion and love over hate! Motivate someone, encourage someone, compliment someone, inspire someone, and or be kind to everyone because you never know the battle that somebody’s fighting.
