Meet Devin Roscillo

We were lucky to catch up with Devin Roscillo recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Devin, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
Personally, I think I get my resilience from my struggles with mental health. I think it comes from my ADHD and Bipolar. They’ve shown me challenges beyond imagination throughout my life, but those challenges allowed me to build my resilience and become better equipped to handle any type of obstacle. Every struggle I face nowadays, I know I can handle, because I’ve overcome many in the past. All my past experiences have prepared me for future struggle. I’m grateful for that.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m a certified ADHD Coach and a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist. I help college students with ADHD learn to thrive in their academics and activities of daily living. I help them with things like planning and prioritizing, creating and setting goals, getting organized, starting tasks and completing tasks more efficiently, growing their confidence, calming anxiety, and meeting goals. I integrate mindfulness techniques into my sessions with my clients to help them cultivate a sense of presence, reduce stress, and enhance overall wellbeing. Having ADHD myself, my clients find me very relatable and often tell me I create a safe space for them.

I’m also the creator of The Revolutionary Journal, a journal to help you master self-discovery and self-evolution. People who have used the journal have said it, “makes the tough inner work easier” and it is “an easy guide to build the life you want.” Right now, The Revolutionary Journal is in e-book format, and can be found on my website, www.devinroscillo.com. Journaling is something I’m really, really passionate about. As someone with ADHD, journaling does so much for me. It helps me feel grounded and clears my brain of clutter first thing in the morning. It’s the reason I was able to discover deeper parts of myself and seek the things that I truly wanted from life. Since I found journaling in 2018, I’ve developed a way for the habit to completely revolutionize your life, so check it out if you want to start journaling now.

In the future, I plan to host workshops for parents to communicate more successfully with their kids with ADHD, as well as workshops for high school and college students with ADHD to teach them mindfulness and the art of revolutionary journaling. Definitely visit my website to join my email list if you’d like to be kept in the loop about upcoming workshops and events.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three things that have allowed me to find the success that I’ve found thus far are my open mindedness, my optimism, and my ability to set boundaries. Here’s a little advice I can share with those who are early on in their journey.

Be open-minded and unattached. You will succeed, but not if you’re trying to control the outcome of every prospective client interaction. Some people will want to work with you, and some will not. Be open-minded and unattached to the outcome, you’ll find yourself happier for it.

Remain optimistic. Business is challenging, and tests our optimism daily. Some days will be harder than others. Remain optimistic and keep pushing forward.

Set clear boundaries with your clients and prospective clients. It’s important to protect your peace and your time and energy. Don’t allow others to walk all over you, and don’t let people-pleasing become the norm. Set clear boundaries and you’ll get to keep your peace.

And ps. If you don’t already have a journaling practice, journaling can help you strengthen all of these skills so be sure to check out The Revolutionary Journal e-book on my website.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
It may not come as a surprise to you anymore, but when I feel overwhelmed, I journal. I find that journaling about what I’m grateful for when I’m overwhelmed helps bring me back to center. So does practicing deep breathing. When I’m overwhelmed or anxious, sometimes I’ll practice 4-7-8 breathing to help ease my anxiety and calm my nervous system. I highly suggest both of these!
