Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to DEVIN SCHMIDT. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have DEVIN with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
Work ethic comes from passion. Until I found my passion my work ethic was less than great. Once you find something you are truly passionate about work becomes less of a task and more of a want. When we want to do something we work harder at it.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Devin is an internationally recognized coach residing in Edmonds, WA. Devin has been involved in pickleball for over 8 years and has helped thousands of players improve their game. Each year he hosts over 75 camps, clinics, charity events, leagues, and tournaments. Devin has taught all over the world with stops from coast to coast in the USA, Holland, Hungary, Spain and Mexico.
For the last 4 years he has been the Head Pro at the highly acclaimed Harbor Square Athletic Club. Devin has helped build the pickleball program into one of the most popular clubs in the PNW.
Devin is the founder of The Premier Pickleball Academy, the first ever pickleball academy in Washington State. The academy launched in 2023 with a variety of events planned for all ages. He is also the founder of Premier Pickleball Camps and Clinics. You can see Devin and his team teaching Premier Camps at beautiful venues all across the nation.
For the past three years he has been a guest pro for the highly rated Tyson McGuffin Signature Camps.
You can catch Devin all over the country sharing the court with some of the biggest names in pickleball.
Devin is very active in his community and regularly hosts charity events. He has held events to support charities such as PAWS Animal Shelter, Platoon 22, Edmond’s Food Bank, Washington Alzheimer’s Association and more.
He has been featured nationally in Fox Business and various local news sources.
As an avid player he travels all over the nation to tournaments to compete in the 5.0 and pro levels. In 2023 he took home 3 gold medals and finished the year on a 22 match win streak. In 2022 he took home 4 gold medals, 1 silver and 1 bronze in the 5.0 division.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Passion, personable and dedication. If you are passionate about something follow it and everything else will fall in line. Find something you truly love and work as much as possible to make it your career. As cheesy as it sounds if you do what you love you won’t work a day in your life.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
When overwhelmed it is easy to look at what you don’t have or can’t do. This is the best time to reflect on what you are grateful for and what you have accomplished. When I take time to reflect I am typically more inspired and find ways to overcome challenges.
