Meet Devin Suggs

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Devin Suggs a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Devin , so great to have you with us today. There are so many topics we want to ask you about, but perhaps the one we can start with is burnout. How have you overcome or avoided burnout?
I think that burnout is bound to happen , it’s nothing you can do to get around it. Now with that being said I think there are things to do to learn to overcome it can vary because all people are different. What works for me may not work for you but everyone has something that can help them. For me when I experience “burnout” it develops from over stimulating myself while trying to reach a goal. I’ve made tendencies of when I lock on to what I want to create I have extreme “tunnel vision” so I need to know everything about everything but that’s just not true. The best art is made without “thought “ it’s just pure emotion and expression , art does not care what people thinks of it nor does it move to the beat of anyones drum. Once you understand art is just moments in time captured all the constraints and pressures will release and you will find your flow again.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I make all types of sound s primarily in my free time. i have just began my entrepreneur journey and it is honestly scary but I’ve learned to face fear head on. With my production I continue to grow and develop my techniques , from making my own videos to websites will not let anything or anyone keep me in a box. Honestly I’m not always sure where I am exactly going but I’m moving somewhere and as long as it’s not backwards I’m good. What I love about production is that I can create something form nothing in the matter of seconds , every-time I make a production it gives me a glimpse of hope.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Determination , Dedication , Discipline . A combination of those attributes with a pinch of patience . With these skills you have to have a plan or your power will just be used and abused. I learned this the hard way , overtone I’ve became a custom to these things and it made me better. Not everything is about accolades sometimes it’s just about making a goal and reaching it.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
My dream job is to become a sync licensing producer and land my beats or production in a form of major media ,if anyone is reading and has resources please reach out! But with that being said through my climb I’ve achieved many more things and I am grateful. I’d also love to work with live instrument players and make a true live production. With those two things I definitely will have less on the bucket list!
