We were lucky to catch up with Devon Montgomery Pasha recently and have shared our conversation below.
Devon, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
There was a moment a few years ago that changed everything for me. I was in a training when someone said, “If you’re not working on your own goals, you’re by default working on the goals of others.” It hit me hard. At the time, I was pouring my energy into other people’s missions, goals, and dreams. That moment made me pause and ask: What do I really want to build? What’s the impact I want to make? What does wild success look like for me?
From there, I started noticing what lit me up: designing experiences that moved people, using my voice to spark energy in a room, and helping others feel more confident and connected. That’s where my purpose started to take shape. Not as one perfect “aha” moment, but as a series of small, undeniable truths I couldn’t ignore, followed by the courage to act on them.
Now, whether I’m on stage as an emcee or guiding strategy behind the scenes, my purpose is to help people feel seen, inspired, and ready to own their own spark. Because I finally decided to own mine.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I like to say I’m an ‘experience engineer’, because all of the roles I serve come down to creating memorable experiences for my clients and their stakeholders. I’m a professional emcee, facilitator, moderator, and speaker who lives at the intersection of storytelling, energy, and intentional design. Through my company, DMP Creative, I partner with conferences, companies, and communities to bring their events to life on stage, online, and everywhere in between.
What makes my work special is that it’s not just about hosting an event or reading a script. My work is about crafting moments that spark connection, shift behavior, and leave people better than I found them. Whether I’m opening a leadership summit, guiding a panel, or helping shape the event strategy behind the scenes, my goal is the same: to make sure every person in the room feels seen, energized, and ready to act.
Right now, I’m especially excited about the growing demand for heart-forward leadership and the role I get to play in elevating voices on stage. I believe that confidence, presence, and connection are essential tools for change. I love helping people tap into that power, whether it’s through a keynote, a conversation, or a quiet moment of clarity during an event.
This year, I’m expanding my SPARK Method into new formats, including training tools for event professionals, deeper corporate partnerships, and a podcast that blends stories, strategy, and behind-the-scenes truths from the live events world. I’m also teaching a new university course in event design and strategy, helping the next generation of hospitality leaders see how creativity and connection can shape the future of our industry.
The word SPARK shows up across all my work because that’s what I aim to ignite: curiosity, confidence, connection, and momentum. And the signature red? It’s a reminder that bold energy, like great events, leaves a lasting impression.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, three qualities have had the biggest impact on my journey: curiosity, presence, and courage.
Curiosity has always been my compass. I’ve never been afraid to ask questions: how things work, why people gather, what makes a moment truly meaningful. That sense of wonder led me to event design, storytelling, and strategy. But I’ll be honest, I didn’t always feel safe asking questions. For a long time, I was labeled as “challenging” or “too much” when I spoke up, and I let that fear quiet my voice. It wasn’t until I started standing in my own confidence that things began to shift. I realized that asking bold questions wasn’t a flaw. It was a gift. Those questions are what led me to the path I’m on today.
Presence changed everything for me. Early in my career, I thought success was about doing more. Over time, I learned that real impact comes from being fully present. Whether I’m with an audience, a team, or just one person across from me, presence creates trust and makes space for connection. If you want to strengthen it, start by slowing down. Really listen. Let people feel that you’re with them.
Courage is what helped me keep going. Starting my business, stepping onto stages, and saying yes to things I wasn’t sure I was ready for all required courage. I’m still practicing it every day. For anyone early in their journey, know that courage doesn’t mean you never feel afraid. It means you keep showing up anyway. Take one small, brave step, then another. You’ll be amazed at how far you can go.
You don’t have to be perfect. Keep choosing curiosity, presence, and courage, especially when it’s uncomfortable. Those choices will lead you somewhere powerful.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
Over the past 12 months, my biggest area of growth has been learning to trust myself. I found the courage to walk away from a client relationship that no longer aligned with my values and stepped fully into solopreneurship. It was a leap that felt both terrifying and thrilling. It required me to rebuild boundaries I had let slide, honor my health, speak up with clarity, and trust the relationships I had spent years nurturing.
Professionally, I’ve built confidence in my skills and shifted from imposter syndrome to self-trust. I’ve developed my SPARK Method into a signature framework, deepened my outreach and marketing, and stepped onto stages as a speaker and emcee with a renewed sense of purpose. I stopped playing small and started believing that what I offer has real value.
That growth didn’t happen in isolation. It was shaped by mentors and coaches who believed in me, strong women in my industry who lifted me up, and the support of my VA team who helped me work on my business instead of being buried in it. I’ve leaned into therapy, journaling, goal setting, and a healthy dose of manifestation and mindset work. I even built a vision board and started watching it come to life.
What’s different now? I believe in my voice. I believe in the future. And I believe that with the right mindset and the right boundaries, we glow.
