Meet Devsoul

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Devsoul a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Devsoul, thrilled to have you on the platform as I think our readers can really benefit from your insights and experiences. In particular, we’d love to hear about how you think about burnout, avoiding or overcoming burnout, etc.

When I experience burnout, I’ve learned the importance of stepping back and being patient with myself. I’ve come to realize that forcing things, especially in creative work like music, rarely leads to the best results.
My approach now is to recognize when I’m feeling overwhelmed and give myself permission to pause. I might reach out to friends for perspective, take a walk to clear my head, or simply step away from the project entirely. When I return with fresh eyes and a calmer mindset, I’m able to work more effectively and produce better quality work.
This experience has taught me that sustainable productivity isn’t about pushing through exhaustion—it’s about knowing when to rest so I can bring my best self to the work.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m Devsoul, a singer-songwriter from Fredericksburg, Virginia. What I love most about what I do is being able to create music that really expresses how I feel—whether I’m going through something sad, happy, or anything in between. The best part about being an artist is creating something people can actually feel and relate to. That connection means everything.
Right now, I’m working on a new project. I don’t have a name for it yet, but it’s definitely going to have that smooth R&B vibe mixed with dancehall. I’m really excited about where it’s headed.
I’m also co-owner of The Showcase.fxbg, which is a media and entertainment team. It’s built around this idea of ‘For Artists, By Artists.’ Basically, we help artists build their platform through content creation and live shows. We believe content is one of the biggest tools artists need to move forward, so that’s what we focus on.
And I’ll leave you with this-you owe it to yourself to follow your dreams. We only get one life, so go chase it.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

I would say my three strongest qualities are being observant, patient, and self-motivated.
Being observant is crucial because it allows you to read the room and understand what needs improvement. I’ve learned that feedback isn’t disrespectful—it’s there to help you grow. When you’re observant, you can catch those details that make the difference between good work and great work.
Patience has been a game-changer for me. I’ve rushed things plenty of times and failed because when you rush, you don’t think clearly. I’ve learned to trust the process and believe that what’s meant for me will come at the right time. Patience allows you to make better decisions.
Self-motivation is probably the most important one. At the end of the day, you need to rely on yourself. You have to be the one to give yourself that pat on the back. This is your journey—it starts with you and it ends with you. No one else can do that work for you.
And I’ll add this: you have to have the willingness to learn and get better. Don’t stay complacent. Being a creator, artist, actor—whatever path you choose—it’s a roller coaster with ups and downs. You have to stay locked in and committed to growth.

If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?

I’d be traveling the world with my closest friends, experiencing amazing food and different cultures, while still performing on stages and creating memories together. Just laughing every day and doing what we love.
But beyond that, I’d be using my platform to give knowledge and encouragement to others. I’m not saying I have all the answers, but I genuinely feel like I was put on this earth to help people—to be in someone’s corner and believe in them when they might not believe in themselves. That’s something I want to continue doing until my last breath.
At the end of the day, I know this life is temporary. My real home is with God, and everything I do here is about making the most of the time I’ve been given and lifting others up along the way.
