Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Devyn Giovengo. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Devyn, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?
I feel like growing up on the westside of Pittsburgh opened our eyes very early to the lack of help and opportuneness our community gets and not just the community but our youth especially. Growing up, myself (Devyn Giovengo) and my business partner (Mikel Battles) grew up very family oriented. This installed the love of community and love of family into each of us at a very young age. We took this love for family and community and are trying our best to pass it on to our struggling Pittsburgh community and push a positive, loving message for everyone in this community and beyond.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m the co-founder and lead designer for fashion brand Visions Attire based out of Pittsburgh, PA.
Currently, my main focus is strictly creating the best products for our consumers and expressing my emotions and feelings through the art of the clothing. At this point in my life I’ve revisited painting, am planning to pick up sewing, and of course designing our products through adobe illustrator and photoshop. I’ve also been working on some personal film projects to expand my mind, expand my skillset and plan to push a very informative message about everyday life in America. This isn’t coming soon, this is going to be a project that I’ll probably have in the works for over a year before its initial release.
I feel like what makes Visions Attire different from your average regular clothing brand is there is actually meaning and purpose behind our brand and not only that, we aren’t trying to be anybody else. Everybody has a clothing brand nowadays but I feel like the difference with our brand is we are 100% being authentic and being ourselves through our art of clothing, content and expression.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Consistency, communication and organizaiton
Consistency – You have to be consistent with your social media posting, with your designs, with the releasing of your products… Once you lose your “buzz” its very hard to get that buzz back so use that momentum and keep going hard.
Communication – You should always be in full communication with whoever is apart of your project, business or whatever. This way everyone can know what the company needs, the goals your company has and there is no misunderstanding. If you and your team aren’t talking to each other about what’s going on internally how do you ever expect to win?]
Organization – You must be organized or things will get misplaced, forgotten, etc. I recommend getting a calendar, unlimited spreadsheets (no I’m not joking), and if you have a lot of inventory get some shelves and some totes.
You can’t have one without the others. Get a habit of being good at these three things and the company should be flourishing itself! Check in every morning/night and see how you can fulfill these needs or if you missed one of them throughout the day how will you make up for it the next day?
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I would love to work with a few clothing brands in my city, big time clothing brands, music artists and more.
Right now I would love to start collaborating with a few companies who produce and sell other products outside of clothing, like interior design. I would love to release a Visions Attire furniture set, a Visions Attire calculator, Visions Attire snacks and more. There really is no limit in how far I want to expand when it comes to a variety of products.
I would love to collaborate with Föreign Enterprise again, this was our first ever collaboration and Adam Corn (owner of Föreign) gave us a lot of game when we first started the brand. I would also love to collaborate with DTL Apparel again, in 2023 we had a huge backpack giveaway in which we helped over 150 children of the Pittsburgh community get school supplies and a backpack for the 2023-24 school year.
I want to collaborate with; John Geiger, David Alan, 1k Global, Play4Motus, Tripper, Local Plaque, Boom Concepts, Trench Babiez, OneWay Out, Vindeezy, Little Tony’s Minimart, EGO, Crash Oasis and more. These are just some of the Pittsburgh brands and companies I’d love to partner with, I know I’m missing a few but there is so much untapped potential in the city right now.
Outside of Pittsburgh I’d love to work with; Lyrical Lemonade, Good Dudes, A Bathing Ape (Bape), Supreme, Mischf, Young Chicken Pox, Omnee World, Octane Industries, Introvert Human, Pharrell, Big Sean, Jakis Christ and more. There are so many other brands and people I’d love to work with but these are just a few.
Also Outkast Studios collab on the way too.
