Meet Devynn Visionary

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Devynn Visionary a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Devynn, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

I moved from Miami to New York specifically because I could feel my drive to work and establish something bigger than myself. I think it came from my dad who is a workaholic entrepreneur in the nonprofit world. He’s always motivated to the best and go bigger, and so when I moved to NYC, I was engulfed in Hustle Culture. I’m learning how I work best and finding a balance between work and life while still being the biggest and the best I can.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

For the past 3 years I’ve worked with different nonprofits and mutual aid organizations learning about my own involvement in community and how it correlates with my art. I planned Wellness Fairs and weekly meditations for 2 years before finally getting my Yoga Teaching Certification this past December. And now, my goal is to blend holistic healing practices with different creative mediums to create a retreat like oasis where artists of all kind can truly unwind.

Thee H.E.A.R.T. Space (Healing Evolution Arts Retreat Therapy) provides a nurturing environment for community to advance their projects and, when they encounter obstacles, Devisionary is around to guide you through it. .

As an artist, I often found myself creating from volatile emotions and didn’t always love what I made. When I discovered yoga, I realized how much more creative I felt after practicing, and how much more I loved my work when creating from that different space. I believe holistic practices can help us create from more than just trauma and negative experiences, and can even help us unlock new artistic levels. As yoga opens the mind, body, and spirit, art reminds us that we can shape our lives on this Earth however we want.

The practice I’m creating is Inner Child Yoga and holding space for us to play, experiment and have fun in our bodies. We offer a variety of ways to tap into that side, including capes, bubbles and laughter.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Dedication, Discipline, and Determination.

Mastering myself and my needs, wants and boundaries helped me progress.

Advice – Don’t rush anything. Let goals go and allow your work to speak for itself. It doesn’t have to make sense for people to support you – Surround yourself with people that will help you achieve, grow, and support your mission.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?

The biggest challenge I’ve faced so far in establishing the space is the capital. Because the studio is meant to operate as more than just a space for music or photography, it’s been important to ensure we have a range of materials and mediums. Part of the goal with this is to be able to share tools like yoga and breathing with people in underserved communities. I’ve offered free group sessions for communities, but with the concept being so new, most first-timers prefer one-on-one sessions, which of course, require capital. Another challenge I’ve faced is organizing the structure in a way that centers on community needs because we all need different things at different times.

There are SO many different ways to get involved! Follow us on Instagram (@TheeHeartSpace), and check out the website at www.devisionary.art/. There’s a link to sign up for the community and you’ll soon have access to our newsletter, blogs, and can rent out the space for your next fashion, music, photography, or art project. We offer free events as well as paid events with pay what you can options so nobody is turned away. Individuals who would like to support financially are encouraged to make donations to provide free one on one sessions for those with disabilities in the neighborhood. Any and all support is appreciated! Blessings
