We were lucky to catch up with Dexter Humphrey recently and have shared our conversation below.
Dexter, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I discovered my purpose through my faith in God. It wasn’t an overnight moment—it came from spending time in prayer, being honest with myself, and recognizing the gifts He gave me. I realized I had a passion for creativity and a natural ability to communicate and connect with people. Once I saw that those gifts could be used to inspire, encourage, and empower others, everything started to make sense. My purpose became clear: to use what I’ve been given to make a difference, not just in what I create, but in the lives I impact.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m the founder of DJH Apparel, a faith-based brand that fuses bold design with messages that motivate and uplift. Our apparel speaks to athletes, leaders, and everyday believers who want to wear their faith and purpose proudly. What makes this work special is that it’s more than fashion—it’s fuel. Every design is rooted in truth, discipline, and the belief that God can use anyone, anywhere, to make an impact.
What’s been especially exciting lately is the release of my new book, *Five Reasons Why Winners Win*. It breaks down the key traits that drive successful people—vision, planning, passion, partnerships, and principles. I wrote it to inspire students, athletes, entrepreneurs, and anyone striving to win in life with purpose and integrity. It’s not just a motivational read, it’s a blueprint built from real experiences and lessons I’ve learned along the way.
Alongside the book, we’re expanding our *Faith in Sports* collection and building new partnerships with schools, churches, and sports programs across the country. We’ve been blessed to have NFL athletes, coaches, and community leaders rock our gear—but for me, the real win is when someone reads a shirt, cracks open the book, and walks away feeling stronger, seen, and spiritually recharged.
I want people to know: this brand isn’t just about clothing. It’s about calling. It’s about knowing that your story matters, your faith still works, and your wins are connected to your willingness to show up and be who God called you to be.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, three things have been especially impactful on my journey: Education, Partnerships, and Trial & Error through Experience.
Education gave me the foundation to think critically, communicate effectively, and constantly grow. I’m not just talking about formal schooling—I’m talking about being a lifelong learner. Whether it’s books, conversations, or just observing how the world works, staying curious has kept me sharp and adaptable.
Partnerships opened doors I couldn’t walk through alone. From mentors to collaborators to people who simply believed in the mission, relationships have played a huge role in every win. As I mentioned in my book Five Reasons Why Winners Win, success is rarely a solo act. The right people bring not only support, but also wisdom, accountability, and reach.
And honestly, a lot of what I’ve built has come through trial and error—just getting in the game and figuring it out. That’s where experience becomes your best teacher. In the book, I talk about the power of perseverance and how failure isn’t final—it’s feedback. I’ve learned more from what didn’t work than what did. The key is not quitting.
For anyone just starting out, here’s my advice:
Stay teachable. Build genuine relationships. And don’t be afraid to fail forward. Everything doesn’t have to be perfect—just purposeful. Your journey won’t look like anyone else’s, and that’s exactly how it’s supposed to be.
If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?
If I knew I only had a decade left, I wouldn’t change a thing. I’d keep doing exactly what I’m doing now. I’ve found my purpose, and I’m laser-focused on fulfilling it—using my creativity, communication, and faith to empower others. Whether it’s through my apparel brand, my book *Five Reasons Why Winners Win*, or the everyday interactions that plant seeds of hope and motivation, I’m all in.
I think when you truly know what you’re called to do, the clock doesn’t scare you—it sharpens you. It pushes you to make every moment count, to move with intention, and to pour into others without delay. So if I’ve got ten years left, I’m spending every one of them creating, serving, and leaving a legacy that points back to purpose.
